One Headlight Out - Not Bulb Or Fuse

Recommended Posts

I have a headlight on my 2003 Chevy thats giving me trouble. Left headlight is out and I checked the fuse under the hood and bulb, both are good. Here is the funny thing... although the buld does not work, it was hot to the touch when I removed it??

Is there another fuse?? or does anyone have an idea what would cause this??

thanks

Pull the bulb and check for BOTH power and ground continuity using a volt-ohm meter. Power circuits for headlamps are generally common for both low beams or both high beams. Once the power leaves the relay, it splits. If there is power on one side and no power on the other, I'd start looking for damaged wiring.

You can also try swapping the left side bulb with the right side bulb and see if the problem moves or you have the same problem. This would tell you if you have a bad bulb or verify the bulb is good and the problem elsewhere.

This is better troubleshooting than replacing a bulb as it is possible to buy a new bulb which does not work, then you might assume the bulb is ok when it in fact is not.
