Attention All Gmt800 Owners

Ok, here is what I got goin' on:

When driving down the road at moderate speeds (20-40 MPH), when I go over expansion joints or man hole covers I hear this rattle/creaking noise from the front passenger seat area. It does not sound metallic, it's more plastic sounding. Now, I have done my own small investigation as to the source...I have shaken the door, checked under the seat, taken items out of the glove box, etc. There seems to be a lot of play in the passenger seat back, but I have held the seat and still heard the noise.

The only way I can consistently replicate it, is by going 25-30 MPH and swerving back and fourth, making the truck rock. I hear it every time.

I am not sure if the structure is just flexing, or if something is loose. I will be bringing it to the dealer before my warranty is up, but feel like it is looking for a needle in a hay stack. Anyone else have something similar?

Very interesting. Did the 800s have those problems as well? I noticed that both of the TSBs that M. Cueva posted are for the 900s. It is extremely possible that it could be coming from the B-pillar...and I do hear it on starts and stops like the TSB says.

I have the same thing in my 04 extended cab. It really sounds like coming from the door area, like something rattling in the plastic (or behind the glovebox). I was thinking window regulator.

Yeah I've heard that noise in my truck as well drives me crazy. I hope you can find out what it is!

I've had a very similar noise in mine for a while. A few months back the dealer replaced all my cab mounts and that helped. Now I've got a high pitched squeak when the body flexes and sometimes even when you slam the door. Good luck.

My squeak, identical to what you mentioned, just started last week. First I thought it was the seat, nope, then I thought it was the door, nope, next I'll re-torque the cab bolts (haven't checked them yet this winter).

Keep us up to date what the dealer says.

My squeak, identical to what you mentioned, just started last week. First I thought it was the seat, nope, then I thought it was the door, nope, next I'll re-torque the cab bolts (haven't checked them yet this winter).

It's the cab mounts. I had this issue also. I fixed mine by using a breaker bar to loosen all the cab bolts, took my truck for a drive, cornered, braking and going over uneven terrain. I went back home and tightened the bolts. I have no idea what the torque rating is, but my creaks have all but gone away. They did come back once and I did this same technique again. It's still working cause my truck is quiet except for the blasted rear end clunking!!!

Related to your cab mounts maybe... nerf bars, are connected to the cab mounts, and I had a squeek for a little till I found it. MAybe your running boards have something to do with it.

It's the cab mounts. I had this issue also. I fixed mine by using a breaker bar to loosen all the cab bolts, took my truck for a drive, cornered, braking and going over uneven terrain. I don't know what it is...but your sig pic is beautiful. What a fantastically good looking truck.

I will have the dealer tighten the cab mount bolts (or at least look at them, when I take it in.

I have since removed my running boards....but noticed the noise before I removed them. Good idea though.

LOL, check to make sure you don't have any coins or anything else in that little overhead compartment if you have one as well as that little tray under your radio that barely fits a cell phone. I had the most annoying rattle for a week and one day my wife was in the truck. I ask her if she hears the rattle and if it's the door. She says it sounds like it's coming from my side. I reached up, felt around and the rattles stopped as soon as I touched my garage remotes. Before that I had checked everything, emptied out my glove box, passenger door, and removed everything I had inside the truck.

it's not a "clinking" like coins hitting each other, it's a "creaking" similar to going up a flight of stairs that haven't been nailed/glued properly

Yep.

There is nothing in my truck except my sunglasses. Nothing in the center console, nothing in the doors, nothing in the bed, nothing in the back seat, etc.
