Federal Flight Deck Officers Program Shut Down

The Federal Flight Deck Officers Program is what allows pilots to be certified to carry guns in the cockpit. Obama is now shutting the program down.

 

If you don't read the article, this paragraph is at least what you should read:

 

"Pilots cannot openly speak about the changing policies for fear of retaliation from the Transportation Security Administration. Pilots who act in any way that causes a “loss of confidence” in the armed pilot program risk criminal prosecution as well as their removal from the program. Despite these threats, pilots in the Federal Flight Deck Officers program have raised real concerns in multiple interviews."

 

Why should pilots be afraid of openly discussing the safety of the passengers and their own lives?

Hmm, interesting article. I've got an uncle who is a pilot for one of the major carriers who went through that program, guess I'll have to get the low down from him. Makes you wonder sometimes about how many things happen that the public doesn't even know about.

i read that article today during lunch... damn its stuff like this that pisses me off. if ANYONE is going to have a gun on my plane i want it to be the PILOT!!

 

Making it harder for pilots to cary... exactly how is this going to make us safer??

 

It's not like a pilot would use the gun to take control of the plane... they already have control of it the last time i checked

Two things...

 

One: If ANYONE is going to have a gun on my plane, I want it to be ME, not the pilot.
