09 Paint Job Question?

Let me start by saying I have a good eye for paints and finishes and do alot of detailing for others. I noticed in the right light that the trucks box looks a bit darker than the rest of the truck. I would guess they may be painted at different times and locations? Could this explain this or am I going nuts?

I'd say you aren't going nuts. There could be slight colour differences in just how the paint was mixed prior to painting. There was one thread where the doors on the truck were very easily seen to be off colour from the other panels.

The bed of my truck is much lighter than the rest of the vehicle--looks like shit, IMO. In fact, at the top of the bed, it has brown speckles. Ridiculous

Beds are painted in another area - separate from the main body of the truck. If you walk a dealer lot on a sunny day, you can see a little difference on some colors.. especially the metallic colors. If you REALLY want to be amazed, walk along the car lines and look how much the bumper covers are a different color than the body of the car. Some are WAY off (depends on the color). It's that way on ALL makes. Most people just don't ever notice it.

I noticed this on my truck too... I too have the Stealth Grey Met.

I have most definitely noticed the car bumpers not matching.

 

Original poster - when you say truck box are you referring to the inside of the bed? If so just get it line-x'd and your problem will be solved!!

This is true. On my brother's 1998 Maxima, the rear bumper cover was painted a very noticeably different shade than the rest of the car (light beige metallic color). It did not bother him, he just lived with it. The car has been excellent and practically trouble free otherwise.

Most people wouldn t even see the difference but I have OCD.

This was one point of concern for me when I bought my truck a few weeks ago. I've seen several graystone trucks where the box color was slightly off compared to the cab.

 

I looked over my truck VERY thoroughly and could not detect any color difference even in bright sunlight, I guess my truck was have been made mid-week (oh wait, it was made on a Wednesday )

 

You should see my 96 K1500, (which is silver). It has a HUGE darker silver area on the passenger side right underneath the extended cab window. The inside of the tailgate has a 4" long hair in the paint. The hood is not painted evenly, and the bottom third which is black is missing black on the bottom of the driver's door. Those were the good old days

My Steel Gray paint is uniform and flawless.

Mine is steel gray and from Mexico as well, and as far as I can tell is uniform.

Door moldings are notoriously off-color as well!
