Buying A New Truck.......

Recommended Posts

Guys

I am turning in my lease in a couple of months.

I am considering ordering a new truck and thought I would get everyone's comments?

I am thinking about a new crew with a 6.0 or the 6.2?

Also considering a denali?

Just wondered how you are making out with mileage and etc for each?

Thanks in advance!

i don't own a 6.0 or 6.2, but in my opinion the mileage between the 4.8/5.3/6.0/6.2 is essentially the same. to me if one vehicle averages 16 mpg and another averages 14 mpg they still fall into the same category of poor fuel economy. regardless of which full size truck you end up going with, fuel economy will not be a bragging point. my advice is to go with the biggest engine you can afford.

welcome to the site

Well you guys are telling me what I thought.

There are a lot of good posts here and I thought I might be able to find and compare. I guess this is because the 6.2 is new to the 1500?

I am just trying to decide and need a little push!

Thanks

I say buy what you WANT. Almost any full sized truck is going to fall into the 14-17mpg range. I know there are always those who will chime in and tell us about their truck getting 24mpg uphill against the wind while pulling the Queen Mary but facts are facts. If you drive a V8 truck... you're gonna get V8 gas mileage. Other than that they are sweet trucks!

Get the 6.2 , you wont regret it .

Its a sweet one . The Denali has the AWD though ?

Not same as 4X4 I believe . I dont think I will take my Denali 4Wheelin anyway

I think a LTZ can come with the 6.2 & 4WD , if thats a big deal for you .

IMO, fuel mileage shouldn't even be a factor when deciding between the 6.0 and 6.2 (they both suck)--it's all about the price. If you can swing it, get the 6.2. That's all there is to it.

I don't like either the 6.0L or the 6.2, Been driving an Escalade with the 6.2L and it's a dog, might have a lot of low end torque but no snap. And yes the Denali is AWD all the time.

I like the snap of the 5.3L personal opinion.

Drive them, see what you like. 6.6L Duremax Diesel is great if you can afford it ;)

if you don t plan on an aftermarket PCM tune I d say watch the 6.0/6.2 because the factory tunes have been terrible on the 6.0. The 5.3 might feel better. Then again it depends on how you drive and what you expect. Drive them all and decide after you gather all the info.... I ve had two 6.0 s, a 4.8 and the current 5.3. They are all good engines. IMO make sure you get the 6 spd trans.

well if i had my truck in yet..... I would tell you how the 6.2 feels but its getting built this week so yea ill get back with you

Sorry The 6.2 is not a dog . It has more SNAP than the 5.3 at low speed ,hi speed ,all speeds.

Its a fantastic engine IMOP. I am sure the 5.3 is also a great engine. Just that the 6.2 puts a grin on my face

every time I start it up.It is the proper sized engine for the truck & you would not be dissipointed with it in anyway .

The 5.3 will move the truck . But the 6.2 really will move the truck as it should . I have never bought something & thought it had too much power. But I know we all have bought something & wished we had more . Get the 6.2 you wont regret it .

I have a 5.3 and while it is plenty of hp/tq for me, if I had to do it all over again. In the end there is NO substitue for displacement. Go with the biggest motor you can afford and don't look back. The gas mileage on ALL trucks suck anyways.

    • A complete delete is the most thorough mechanical solution, but it is also major engine work. On a quiet truck that is still under extended warranty, opening the engine purely as prevention is difficult to justify. A plug-in disabler stops commanded cylinder deactivation, but it does not remove or repair the collapsible lifters, so it should not be treated as failure insurance. I would keep the oil full, document the maintenance, and have any persistent tick, misfire, or loss of power diagnosed promptly. If the engine eventually has to come apart, that is the logical time to compare an OEM-style repair with a complete delete. The right choice depends on the truck’s symptoms, warranty status, expected ownership period, and whether the engine already needs to be opened. We explain that decision in more detail here—full disclosure, this is our own guide: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/do-you-actually-need-an-afm-disabler   One exception: some 2021 L82/L84 trucks have RPO YK9, meaning cylinder deactivation was already disabled in the factory ECM; on those trucks a plug-in disabler is redundant, although the AFM/DFM hardware remains inside the engine.
    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
