37s

Well, I have been thinking about putting 37s on my 05' 1/2 ton. The key thing I'm worried about is axle failure. What do you guys think? I have 4.56 gears and 9" of lift, so that extra space around my 35s is just begging to be filled....

Should I do it or will my axles pay the penalty?

With 4.56 gears and a tire that large, you'd better not ever get a wheel in a bind or SNAP goes the axle shaft. I don't think you'd see any problems daily driving but offroad I'd go for something stronger in the axle dept. Surely you aren't running a Grenade 80?

I haven't upgraded anything in the axle department. Everything is stock other than the ring/pinion.

Wow. I'd say you're living on borrowed time with what you currently have, let alone with 37s. (Well, unless you're really gentle when you wheel :puke:)

i never had a problem with my 37s offroad, but one of the first things i did was get rid of the G80 for a detroit trutrac.... the G80 carriers are weak

Well, the diff shop that installed the new gears looked at the axles for me. I made them check them while they had everything open. They said everything looked very good.

You multiply the torque well beyond the OEM specs when you go to 4.56 and tall tires. Axles can look fine and break without warning off road. I've seen many broken parts on Jeep expeditions for the same reason. Your truck is HEAVY which also contributes to broken stuff. I think the fronts are pretty much OK but the rear end could use some beefing up if you want to be sure.

Yeah, that is why I think I'm sticking with 35s and only toying with the idea of 37s.
