Bmart Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 So i was talking to a guy today, he was asking me how my truck was on gas. I told him not bad, just about 21mpg on my last tank. Then he tells me his 2000 5.3l sierra gets 28 mpg! Apparently he's put on a new intake and exhaust.... And he was pretty old so i assume he drives like an old man.... but still... is it even possible???

Darkanion Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Maybe he had a trick HHO setup in the back and some Tornados under the hood???
Darkanion Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 oh and drafting behind an 18-wheeler I know there's a "Mexican Made" joke in here somewhere... But, I just can't find it...
09Jimmy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Window sticker on my 2009 GMC RCSB 4X4 with 5.3 and 4.10 gears says 27 MPG highway, I have gotten 30 MPG. I've gone 630 miles on 21 gallons.

I want to see a copy of the window sticker. I believe the 21mpg, and maybe 30 for a SHORT period but I know GM is not advertising 27 mpg unless you have a Hybrid.
JNG Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 http://www.gm.com/experience/fuel_economy/...brid_111708.jsp GMC Sierra HYBRID 1500 - 2WD model fuel economy is 21 mpg city and 22 on the highway. (US Gallons) Now if he was Canadian then it is possible: http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles/gmc/s...tions?ADV=85403# 6.0l Hybrid 2WD: 29 / 31 / 30 4WD: 27 / 29 / 28 5.3l LY5 2WD: 19 / 28 / 23 (4-speed auto.) 19 / 29 / 23 (6-speed auto.) 4WD: 19 / 27 / 22 (4-speed auto.) 19 / 28 / 22 (6-speed auto.) There is a difference between US Gallons and the Gallon used in Canada. 1 Imperial Gallon = 1.2 US Gallons So it makes sense that a "Canadian Gallon" would get you more miles per gallon since it is bigger. If the old guy is not Canadian or British then he is just plain crazy!
VR021302 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Maybe he transplanted an AFM equipped engine in his truck
JNG Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Bmart I see from your profile that you are from Ontario, Canada so it is true. The old guy was talking about imperial gallons!

The hybrid's boost the city rating to 20MPG, doesn't help highway at all.
