Hi All,

How many Mac users do we have on here?? What kind of Mac are you running? I will eventually cross to the other side, and not sure if I should go for an iMac, or get a mini? What do you all think??

I have a Macbook, and it is great. And as soon as this piece of crap PC dies, I will be getting a iMac. I find the OS much easier to use, less crashes and no error report requests. The Macbook just seems to run smoother with less problems then this thing, and I love the display that the monitor gives for the Mac systems. Yeah, they are a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have called customer service once, and they were great to talk to. I also use a Apple router for wireless, and it is sweet, and more secure then anything else I have ever used. I know this lady who has a publishing business, and she has been using a Mac since the late 1980's, and it is still problem free. I have lost count how many times I have replaced a PC since then due to it dying a horrible death. May this one follow in that path, soon.

Not a Mac user by choice. I have a iBook that is my wife's but I plan on buying a Windows based laptop as soon as I have the extra funds or can justify it.

I would go with an iMac over a Mac Mini. I crossed over to the other side a few years ago. I currently have an iMac, MacBook and iPhone so I guess you can say I'm sold on the brand. Both the iMac and MacBook have a 2.4Ghz and 2gb of ram. A bit more ram would be nice but 2gb suites my needs for now. Like Outbacker said, these things are bullet proof. I'm going on 3 years with these machines and not a single time has it "locked up" or "crashed." I can't say the same for any windows machine that I have run in the past (home or work). I also have the Airport Extreme wireless router and it's been flawless also...very secure. The one drawback is the availability of programs for Apple vs Windows. I use Parallels software (run Windows within the Apple environment) for my financial software since there really isn't any good Apple options. Other than that, I love it.

I had an older iMac, and recently updated to a new one with the leopard operating system, and I love it, I also have a macbook, which I love also, and an iPod Touch

IMO I'd go for the iMac, I considered the Mac mini, but once you put the cost of the mini and a good quality monitor, your about the same money

I bought a 13" MacBook a few months ago and love it. The OS is easy to use and I've had zero issues. I'm also a fan of the Windows systems for gaming - that is the only reason I like them. If companies ever make it where a Mac and PC can play the same game at the same time (without having to boot the mac with windows), I'll stay Mac. Clean and easy to use.

Of course, I cut my teeth on an Apple IIc when I was a kid. This is, however, my first mac in a long, long time. The new touchpad on the MacBook is sweet. I like all the shortcuts and find it difficult to get in the patrol car and have to remember the PC interface.

I still use my computer that we bought back in 2002. Windows XP Home Edition, 150GB HD, 512MB Ram, etc. Still runs damn good. If you know how to take care of your computer, it should last you well over 5-10 years. I haven't used an anti-virus program for the last 5 years, and have experienced no problems so far. Also have a gaming computer (Vista 64 Bit, 9GB Ram, 1TB HDD, 2 gaming cards, etc.) Macs are overpriced IMO.

I'm a die hard Apple user. Been that for years. I wouldn't call myself a fanboy, but I'm close. And yes, I have an Apple logo on my truck. :D

Although I think that problems with Windows are usually overrated by Apple users and visa versa, I would never switch back to Windows. I sometimes help other people out with computer problems and I am shocked when it is Windows related. I have to admit that I don't use the Windows interface much anymore, but I can't help getting annoyed every time I use it. Could be me, but, I can't find my way, not logical etc..

If you plan on tweaking, replacing hardware and stuff, you should stick to Windows. If you prefer a system that works 'out of the box', a Mac is the way to go IMO. It takes about a week to get used to if you are not familiar with OSX, but you will not look back.

Everything here is Apple. I use a newer MacBook Unibody, my wife a white MacBook. My son has an iMac, there's a iMac in the office, an Apple TV, 4 Airports, a Time Capsule, 3 iPhones, a couple of iPods.

As far a being overpriced I will have to disagree. It might be more expensive, but it is nicer and who wants to be cheap anyway. It is like comparing Apples with ... you know what i mean.

If you are looking for a desktop model, go for an iMac. If you plan on using it everywhere, I would consider a MacBook (and a wireless network).

+1 Take care of it and watch what you are DLing and it will last and run great. All of my machines at home and work run great.

You said the PC's UI is hard to use and you can't find your way, then you say it takes about a week to get used to Mac  . Windows is probably the easiest to learn.

My wife has a couple Macs at home and she has had zero problems. She runs the normal windows programs and it never ever locks up or had a virus. Our first one had one minor problem when it was two years old (the screen quit) and the local Mac dealer replaced a widget in 5 minutes and did not charge us a penny. Never had another problem. I use regular PCs for work and I do not touch computers at home if I can help it. We bought the 2 Mac to replace 2 DELL computers that were nightmares and DELL did not stand behind them even though they were still in warranty. DELL blamed the Windows software on two separate hard drive crashes.

I think I wasn't clear. Sorry about that. I assumed that WilliamBos was planning to 'cross over' from Windows to OSX. One of the things that usually makes people hesitate is that the UI is different to what they are used to. From my experience I can tell him that it wasn't difficult at all. I have experience with both Windows and Mac software and prefer the OSX. I am not into Windows bashing, I am sure there are people out there that are perfectly happy with it, I'm just not one of them.

Since you're going from a PC to a Mac, I'd probably go with the iMac. The Mini is good, but is designed to use an existing keyboard, mouse and monitor. It's an affordable way to upgrade an existing Mac set-up.

The mini is the way I'll be going in the very near future, but I'm a lifetime Mac user with an existing monitor/keyboard set-up that I'm happy with.

Macs are overpriced....... Why do you drive an escallade? You do know they are just an expensive rebadged tahoe right?

As soon as you said you havent run AV in 5 years your opinion just became worth 0. Unless your computer is in a locked room with no internet access at all then you should be running AV.
