Bcm Question

Hey Guys, I'm installing the SWI-JACK to keep Steering wheel controls working in my truck. Where exactly is the BCM located. I know its underneath the steering wheel, just not sure of it's exact location.

If someone has a picture or any info i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Look up under the panel beneath the steering wheel, there's a box with 7 connectors on it or something like that. Easier to see if you remove that panel, but not impossible with a flashlight and a little flexibility.

Actually you don't need any flexibility, it's sitting right there, you can squat down and see it just to the left of the steering column, you can see the lower 2-3 connectors on the right side of the box.

If you go to PAC's website they will give you a custom printout of the connections for your truck and how to hook it up. On mine they actually told me the color of the connector and the color of the wire to hook up to.

Here is a picture of mine (the green connector) I was upside down under the dash when taking it but if you look straight up under the steering column you will see a row of connectors.

I actually had this hooked up and then changed my install kit from the GMLAN-01 kit to the PAC audio kit and hookup was much easier. Wiring is all done behind radio!! I would suggest returning the gmlan kit (if that is what you gave) as the Bluetooth interacts so much better with the PAC install kit!!

Just remembered that when I was having problems when hooking up to the bcm it had to be a "wire to wire" connection because the voltage tolerances were so low. (5.2V, 5.4V, etc.) No mid-wire clamping connectors. Crummy part about this is the wires are very short so I had to use a small piece of wire to connect them.

I have attempted to install the PAC SWI-JACK the past 2 days and everything is connected as the instructions say. I have power to the unit, but cannot get it to program. I called PAC's Tech support and the guy said I needed to use a relay (since i am using the Metra GMOS-LAN-05). Has anyone else tried this for this particular unit?

Where are you making your power connections? Do you have wire to wire connections on the wire going to the BCM and the deck?

The power connections are hooked up just like the instructions say to do it. As is the BCM. I know its the Metra Harness that is causing my problem. I had called in to technical support a few days ago. The Technician I spoke with told me that it was still possible to use the SWI-JACK with the Metra GMOS LAN-05, but I would need to do the following information:

· I would need to purchase a relay from my local autozone or radioshack, but I did not note where this relay would need to be installed.

(The wire numbers are in very small print on the wire casing)

· The 87 wire would need to be spliced into the Metra wiring on the Factory harness side of the Metra.

· The 1030 wire will go to the Red Wire on the SWI-JACK (This one does not make sense to me but its what the Tech said...)

· The 85 wire will go to the Ground

· The 1086 Red wire will go on the radio side on the Metra Piece.

· and that I will not need to use the 87A wire

.

I have not gotten a Relay to test this out yet. would anyone have any Idea where I would need to install the relay?

I don't understand the relay part. Usually you would use a relay if you have a power problem or wanted to guarantee 12V. I did not use a relay in my install.

I don't know why the metra kit should cause your problem as the two really don't talk to each other.

As far as the wires. I don't know the numbers on the wires but as far as I can tell your install should be the same as mine. For mine I hooked the blue-yellow wire from the swi-jack directly to the back of the deck to the steering wheel control wire (blue and yellow wire). and then the green wire from the swi-jack to the BCM wire. You have to cut the brown loop wire and tape the ends off and the hook the red power wire to a 12v switched (Radio switched power) and ground to the ground. That is the only connections that I made. and I was able to program right away. (Except for the truck running thing) If you have hooked the wires up like this and it still does not work, then I would suspect the swi-jack is defective.

How did you make out?

I still havent resolved the SWI-jack issue I was having. I need to call PAC again, just havent had a chance recently. I've been fighting another beast (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=100307)

Was wondering if you could refresh my memory... What were the things differnt about the PAC-OS-4 Adapter that you didnt like? I was considering swapping the Metra for this piece since the PAC just plugs in directly to it, but I could not remember what You didnt like about it. I really like the metra adapter other than the fact that its a pain to get steering wheel controls working (at least for me.)
