Based on every GM vehicle I've ever owned - they ALL make noises. And by noises I'm refering to interior squeaks, ratltles, pops, vibrations, etc. Basically, just poor build quality. Unfortunately, my very expensive GMT-800 Denali is no exception here.

So I'm curious if any of the NBS GMT-900 folks are having any noise issues? This is going to be a very important factor for me when considering my future vehicle purchase.

I hate noises. :)

I havent taken it off roading yet, my silvy z71, but it is pretty quiet. No interior noises, and theres a slight rattle/ping type noise when going over rough roads and you have the window down, but other than that i am happy. I also have the extended cab, which i hear is worse because of the doors, but no problem from them either

my 2000 rado made one rattle noise from the headlight switch area, then later made the usual body twist and squeak noises that required continous Dielectric grease applications to shut it up.

my NBS '07 is so quiet it scares me.......no squeaks, rattles or even a wind sound inside the cab............time will tell of course, but based on my 2000 and (almost forgot) my wife's 2001 that she owned for a year, i am totlly impressed with the new ride.

Thank you, omegafiler for calling your trucks by a model not NBS this is what we need so we know what models we are talking about.

I have been trying to get others to do this it would make problem solving easier.

When shopping for my truck I drove two identical trucks (except for color), even built in the same plant. One (the one I bought) was noticeably stiffer, quiter, tighter, smoother. Better overall build quality. They were all far quiter than my 800. My 900 is deathly silent. Bumps in the road are a dull distant thump, thump with no reverberations at all.

Mine is very quiet. I've also driven several 07 Tahoe's and Burb's, some in LTZ with all possible options and they have been MUCH higher quality then the old ones. The difference from 06 to 07 is major. They are just so much more modern and all around much much better. All have been super quiet with no excess wind or road noise. No squeeks or rattles.

Thank you summerwind, since the moderators dont want to seperate the different model series for some reason but its real hard to figure out what a person is talking about when they dont tell us the MY just NBS. Does NBS mean 99-2007 GMT800 including classic or 2007 GMT900 in fact there are some posters that have called the GMT400 a NBS :-0

When I play the tunes loud, the bass causes the "pop-up" door lock thingys to rattle. WTF. And I mean they really vibrate. Other than that, the truck is very quiet in all other aspects.

LOL red, yeah i just read thru an older topic that i searched on and saw exactly what you meant...........got into the habit of calling my new truck by the "NBS" acronym myself based on all the recent topics on the GMT-900 series, so i assumed it was a no-brainer thing as i can't see why anyone would inquire about a discontinued model.

glad we got this sorted out. :)

Maybe the two of us can entice everyone else to either post there MY or Series. Sure would make communication much better.

Not a sound. The only thing is the passenger window. It squeaks a bit but its a manual and has been used maybe three times in the past three months since I've owned it.

My '07 Silverado Work Truck was very quiet until I altered it by adding the exhaust. When I'm at cruising speed, I barely hear that :) !

    • WOW, something we agreed on. I only bought at sticker twice. A 94 impala ss and an Acura intagra type r. Made money on the first. Still have the second.
    • I prefer new, but not without a deal. Historically I've bought severely aged new inventory, leftover model year, unpopular configuration kind of stuff that sits around on dealer lots until they just want it gone. $10k off MSRP kind of stuff on a mid-priced truck. That really, really helps knock down that first year depreciation. It also requires being somewhat flexible on colors and options. I wouldn't buy a 4 cylinder if I was looking for an 8 cylinder, but if I got blue paint instead of black, or a great deal was lacking a minor option, I'm willing to overlook those things for savings.   Used <> used. Condition and history are everything. If I'm buying used I'm looking for cream of the crop. The truck from the guy who religiously pampers it, and then decides a year later he wants newer and nicer. NOT the ex-rental vehicle, or the crew cab traded in by the family with 7 kids who like to throw food, and the oil only got changed when there was time long after the oil life monitor started alerting.
    • @Grumpy Bear the conclusion from your post about doubling engine life has me curious. Are we literally talking an expected life of 250,000 miles potentially becomes 500,000 miles with a step up in filtration for fresh oil at "the oil factory" when it's bottled? I know you said that's a single variable among many, but, that's significant if the implication extends that far into a real world use case. I would think the oil marketing folks would really eat that up and make it known.   Particles introduced during oil change is a fairly easy one to avoid, but probably not intuitive as one would think. I.e. using a clean funnel. But...what was it wiped with? Paper towel leaves behind little fibers. A solvent if not dried is not something one would want to introduce into their engine with clean oil. And, keeping the oil filler neck clean and free of buildup.. Look at some guys engine bays and they're an absolute mess. Some say that's better than the drawbacks of cleaning it. I'm not a buyer of that idea.   I've also wondered if "flooding" the top end of the engine with oil while filling is a bad idea. During normal lubrication the oil flows in a gutter back into the galleys. But if you flood the area you're potentially washing the top of the rockers, springs, and other areas which may not get much oil wash normally, and you're mixing all that into the new oil. I just don't have the patience to pour slowly. 😆
    • It was a bad pump, i had a dealer next day the pump. Gm part #86591535. Tools needed 10mm socket, pliers for hose clamps, 1/2gal of Dexcool. About 30mins to remove and install, pump located near oil filter on driver's side frame rail. I had a local mobile mechanic delete the code, he had a snap on scan tool. My scanner could not delete the code. I drove back home about 700 miles since then, and no check engine light. Hope this helps someone in the future in the same situation i was in. Thank you to all that helped me.
