Amsoil for engine and tranny ?
Z45 replied to CSI-WALLEYE's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
No dip stick on 8-sp. Work was done by a trans tech. The GMC dealer down the road did not exude confidence.- 34 replies

Amsoil for engine and tranny ?
Z45 replied to CSI-WALLEYE's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
No. Took it to a Chevy dealer who had the capability, nothing they could not handle. Its an 8-sp so needs special fill procedure.- 34 replies

Amsoil for engine and tranny ?

I have had AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-20 since about 5,000 miles. I also changed over to AMSOIL in the transmission (8-sp), transfer case and both differentials. Used nothing but AMSOIL for over 30 yrs. I will never use anything else, only the best if good enough for me. Even use it in my JD X738, RZR S 900, lawn mower and week wacker.- 34 replies

2019 5.3l 8 speed jolt when accelerating
Z45 replied to Bmwtech113's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
fwiw " The new fluid (19417577) has a new GTL (Gas to Liquid) base stock " GTL base stocks are Gr. III. There are five groups in the classification system, ranging from Group I – Group V: Group I Characteristics Group I base oils are the least refined of all the groups. They are usually a mix of different hydrocarbon chains with little uniformity. While some automotive oils use these oils, they are generally used in less-demanding applications. • Group II Characteristics Group II base oils are common in mineral-based motor oils. They have fair-to-good performance in the areas of volatility, oxidation stability, wear prevention and flash/fire point. They have only fair performance in areas such as pour point and cold-crank viscosity. • Group III Characteristics Group III base oils consist of reconstructed molecules that offer improved performance in a wide range of areas, as well as good molecular uniformity and stability. Manufacturers can use these synthesized materials in the production of synthetic and semi-synthetic lubricants. • Group IV Characteristics Group IV base oils are made from polyalphaolefins (PAO), which are chemically engineered synthesized base oils. PAOs offer excellent stability, molecular uniformity and improved performance. • Group V Characteristics Group V base oils are also chemically engineered oils that do not fall into any of the categories previously mentioned. Typical examples of Group V oils are esters, polyglycols and silicone. As with Group IV oils, Group V oils tend to offer performance advantages over Groups I – III. An example of a mineral-based Group V exception is a white oil, a very pure lubricant used in industries ranging from cosmetics to food processing. -

You are driving a computer so expect anomalies. -
Its tied to the remote/key you are using. Use the other one and you're #2. All the setting are keyed to the remote. I doubt it can be turned off, its something the update set as default. If you use key #2, all your radio stations, mirror and seat seating will be what was programed for Driver #2, likely factory defaults.

The concern with these rust proofing services is the quality of the installation work by the servicing dealer and many were sub-standard amateurs. One around here lasted about 5-10 yrs before their reputation caught up with them due to slip-shod work and screw you attitude of the owner. Friend had an accident (minor fender bender) and the body shop showed him the Ziebart rustproofing was hardly anywhere to be found, lots of plugs on holes but nothing or very little applied and the undercoating was falling off. That shop in under new ownership (his son) and they no longer do rustproofing, they now sell cars, have quicklube and do detail/custom accessory installation.

Vibration on new 3500HD, Just tires? Or worse?
Z45 replied to bimmerboy318's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Well you are not supposed to be driving 80-90 mph so you might have a hard time convincing a dealer to drive it that fast to check it out. But, it does sound like tires and since it was sitting for several months they could have flat spotted and may take a long time to smooth out. -
There are many variables that affect mileage such as: tire inflation, the type of fuel, weather, elevation, the speed at which you drive, the gear in which you drive, the speed with which you accelerate, engine maintenance, excessive idling, cruise control, the grade of motor oil you use, and of course etc. In short, mileage is complicated.

GM Waiting to Fix Transmission on my 1 Day old AT4
Z45 replied to Jimbo20's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Trans shudder is because the OEM fluid is no good and won't last, Mobil 1 has had to reinvent their Dexron HP. Bean counter spec's. If the dealer can't solve it, he is incompetent IMO and a great many are. Dealer can't just replace a trans (or engine for that matter) on a whim, they have to get approval by the zone rep. If they let every dealer willy nilly replace expensive parts without conformation of the problem they would take the easy way out. They should have put you in a new loaner or rental and pick up the tab. Case in point, someone I know had a issue with the 4wd system in his 2012 Silverado. They did several things to it and nothing seemed better. So after much pissing and moaning the dealer caved in and order a new transfer case the customer diagnosed as the problem and insisted they replace. Guess what, same thing. It was the !@#$%^& tires he put on it but he would not accept that reason. They put tires and wheels from a good used truck on lot and it rode 100% better, still would accept that and blames it all on GM.- 134 replies

Voltmeter Fluctuation Condition Some customers may comment that the voltmeter is fluctuating between 12 and 14 volts on their full size pickup or utility vehicle. Starting with the 2005 model year, light duty full size pickups and utilities are equipped with a new Regulated Voltage Control (RVC) system. This system reduces the targeted output of the generator to 12.6-13.1 volts when in "Fuel Economy Mode" to improve fuel economy. The generator may exit "Fuel Economy Mode" if additional voltage is required. This will cause the voltmeter to fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts as opposed to non-regulated systems that usually maintain a more consistent reading of 14 volts. This fluctuation with the RVC system is normal system operation and NO repairs should be attempted.

These vehicles are more computer than truck so weird anomalies are common. Often times someone else driving the same vehicle will not experience the same thing. That's why when you take it to the dealer, they say they can't duplicate the concern.

It is not safe to assume that a higher viscosity oil is always better for your engine because other factors, such as engine design, fuel economy and power, are also related to operating viscosity. You should always consult your owner's manual for the right oil to use for your particular engine.
-
0W-20 engine oil can reduce the startup load by making it easier to turn over a cold engine and the impact is felt at higher temperatures than most consumers would think, not simply to what feels colds to humans - warm summers days are cold to an parked engine.

My 2017 rear driver door lower rear corner was just like the pic. The dealer replaced the hinge bolts and its almost perfect, said they installed wrong one on assembly line.

I am assuming the shipment to NH is probably by rail since its about 1,000 miles +- as trucks are more regional. It typically takes a month after the invoice to get to a ramp in the dealers region, so 2 weeks is not long. Logistics take time, the train heading NE is not going to move till its a full load. Unless you are talking (on the phone) with the dealer business center (only for dealers) than any other info you get could be outdated by as much as 24-48 hrs. Any other access is not real time. · 4B00, Bayed by the shipper (listed anytime a vehicle is sitting parked waiting for next mode of transportation.) 4D00, Bayed for Quality Control Inspection (Unknown Time frame)nkn · 4200, Shipped (Moved or in process of moving to another location by transport company, see 4300) · 4300, Intermediate Delivery (In combination with a 4200 this is saying that the vehicle has been transported to a vendor or upfitter) A Also note, shipped DOES NOT mean its moving, it means its in the hands of the shipper and there are 1,000's of trucks to load one at a time. own

I noticed that the local GMC and Chevy dealer got a load of 2019 HD's this week so yours is probably close. I am sure you realize the 2019 HD's are just a carry over from 2018 and not the new body style. The 1st 2 weeks of July GM is typically on company wide vacation shutdown. This is normal, it can take up to 4wks, logistics takes time. Transit to NC will be train so its probably on a truck somewhere right now. There is a nationwide shortage of truck drivers. 2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD Crew Cab 153.7" SLT

VIN Decoder & RPO Codes
Z45 replied to 2016 Sierra Owner's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
You can't take an RPO code list from 2004 and apply it to a 2014 model. The 2004 was current in 2004 and codes often change from year to year and model to model not to mention have a completely difference meaning from car to truck and GM division to GM division. For instance, everyone sees G80 on a list as Limited Slip Differential but in trucks and SUV's it means Locking Rear Differential. Also, there are often RPO's that cannot be deciphered as they are really not options but components used in assembly of the vehicle. Keep in mind that the usage of that SPID label is "Service Parts Identification". I have seen list published on the web that are 30 yrs old. Make sure the reference you use covers the year vehicle you have. -

I know someone who wanted a yellow suburban but the dealer would/could not order that color because customer was not a fleet account. So he ordered white and had it repainted yellow. We had trucks, mostly Chevys that in the order process were ordered in White (screw up). Our dept (state dot) required all vehicles working in traffic to be orange. So 300 Chevy trucks had to be repainted orange before they could be assigned, pu's and suburbans. One was my k2500 'burban and they did a very good job, could not find white anywhere and no overspray. It delayed getting the new truck about 6-months.
