"99" Tahoe

Hi, My 99 Tahoe (5.7 ltr. F.I.) died on the highway without warning the other day. I initialy suspected the fuel pump but came across a blown 20 amp ECM - 1 fuse. I got a diagram and found this circuit has the coil, vcm, and crank pos. sensor on it. I disconected the first two and the fuse blew again. I got under the Hoe and disconected the crank sensor and the fuse held but when I pluged it back in to confirm the fuse still held and the truck still would'nt start. I was told if the crank sensor was removed it has to be reprogramed into the system. Is this true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tony

Have been a few posts on here about aftermarket crank sensors not starting the truck.

No programming is necessary at all. Only time you have to reprogram anything is when you replace the PCM

Go back to the parts store...try a different brand.

Don't think the CPS has to be programmed. You may have a short on that system, and perhaps the part went totally out , causing the fuse to blow. You might have to do some troubleshooting to figure out what is going on.
