Mudding Story

So i decided to take my 2001 Sierra mudding for the first time with my buddy. So after a while we decided to go down a road and see what was back there. Turns out nothing but gravel and a dead end. So we turned around and went back to mudding for a little bit then left. When i pulled out onto the main road i noticed a little difficulty steering so i turned into the next gas station to see 3 of my tires were flat. So i called the tow truck and they took a flatbed and dropped my truck off at my house. Turns out that the gravel was actually railroad rocks which just tore me and my buddys tires up but he had thick mudding tires so no flats on his truck. So as the truck sat in my drive way for three days i cleaned and shopped around for new wheels.

Tell me what you think, good or bad i dont care.

What tires were they?? Sounds like car tires to me. How much tread remaining?

Seems like a little identity crisis going on with those wheels and the toolbox. Lose the toolbox and it'll look great!

sounds like it WAS fun before the flats. haha.

if you go more often, you might wanna think about some of those kevlar lined tires.

The tires were cooper discover ATR, the back two had about 25% tread left, the front two were still a little over 50% maybe. The one with the least amount of tread didnt pop LOL.

yeah i know, i noticed that also. I just store so much stuff in there though. I might go with one that hides down in the bed.

Haha it was very fun. they other guy felt terrible cause he led me back there but i just laughed and said it was worth it and i got 3 free tows a year through my insurance so no big deal.

I dont know if i ever want to go again because after 3 days of cleaning there is still so much mud in so many places so unless you got any tips for easy cleaning that might be my last time LOL.

I dont know if i ever want to go again because after 3 days of cleaning there is still so much mud in so many places so unless you got any tips for easy cleaning that might be my last time LOL.

I came back from a hunting trip with my truck looking worse than your pics; mud caked into the fenders 8" deep, completely covered in stickiy dirt. I stopped at a gas station that was co-located with a car wash (dirt just falling out all over the place) and, as a joke, I inquired about a detail.....amazingly they offered to do it right then for $100 (I thought he was kidding at first), underbody and engine included! I went across the street and had lunch and watched a ball game while they worked it over (estimated 2 hours, took over 4) and it was the best money I ever spent. That woulda took me forever and they did a really nice job.

Don't know what to say about your tires....Never heard of railroad rocks on a road, but if it's meant to be driven on, I don't think your tires should have been that chewed up for the little while you were on that surface. At least they weren't new. They're supposed to be pretty good tires.

That was my exact thought!

I love the color combo of your truck. I really like the new tire/wheel combo too, BUT if it were mine I would get a flush mount toolbox and lose the light covers.

Light covers look ok on a dark truck, but they stick out like a sore thumb on yours. I would much rather see stock or clear lense there.

Ya i am thinking about taking it down to the russel speeders and seeing what they can do. Yeah, i dont know why the rocks were there but they were. my tires were getting down there though.

Thanks for the compliment, i like the lights right now. i couldnt decide to get clear corners or do that. This was cheaper and i like it for now. i will probably get bored with it after a while and go for the clear look.

Looks good man! Sorry you lost 3 tires though. Easiest way to clean the underside of the truck...place a sprinkler under the truck and let it go back and forth for a while. I do that while I clean the top.

Sounds like my experience with Cooper ATR's. I spent a weekend driving down gravel roads and mountain trails last April and I had to buy a new set of tires because mine got chewed up so badly by the rocks.

Looks good man! Sorry you lost 3 tires though. Easiest way to clean the underside of the truck...place a sprinkler under the truck and let it go back and forth for a while. I do that while I clean the top.
