Check Out This Bike Rack I Put Together.

I put this rack together from old used parts I got free from customers. All I had to purchase were the crossbars. Its all Yakima product. I modified the clips to attach to my tonno cover rails and added some spacers to make it all work. The cargo box was a unit I saved from the garbage. The latch froze up on it so Yakima sent us a new one for the customer. This one made it to my house before the the garbage. biggthumpup.gif I just removed the latch and added my own set of locks and latches we had here at the shop.

This setup would cost over $800 to buy the parts new. I have 40 bucks into it. bounce.gif

awesome setup, and you cant beat the price!

very nice :fume:

i used a standard bike stand, used in a garage or parking lot in the back of my truck, secured with some bungee cords, works like a charm, 3-4 bikes no problem.

I originally had a setup like yours. But, I am going on a long trip and needed to bed space. I have been gathering all these parts for like a year and finally ended up with enough to get it going.

Looks good!

I did something similar. On my 05 I had the pace Edwards cover that was designed to work with Thule parts. On my 08 I installed the Thule TB60 tracks on my bed rails which allow me to have all of the rack capabilities/options of any vehicle with a normal roof rack.

now that i see bigger versions of those pics (was on my cell before)... make sure that you reinforce the mounting for your tonno cover. Those bikes and container are going to create quite a bit of force; you don't want that ripping off on the highway. And with the weight up there you're also going to have induced fatigue on the cover rails from that stuff bouncing around.

The TB60 tracks are $100... maybe something to consider:

Got ya. I wondered how long it would take before I was told HOW to do it. :fume: I have added a couple more clamps to the tonno rails and added a spacer into the rail itself so it does not crush. As for the tarp, there are rubber feat between it and the towers.

It is strong. I was able to shake the truck all over and lift the rear an inch or more from just one corner of the rack.

Have any pics of the supports? And try shaking it from the center of the load bars where the force will be acting with the maximum torque and make sure those mounts are firm.

Also, the thin alum used for those covers isn't good in tensile loading, especially cyclic....so keep an eye on it for cracks.

Not trying to bust balls, but your safety and the lives of those on the highway with are are kind of at stake; just want to make sure some things are covered.

sort of off topic, but I did not think this deserved a new thread.

Is this the Backflip cover you have here?

I am looking to get a solid fold cover, and the thing I like about the backflip or the style on your truck is that you still have the bed rails to put things like the Thule rack rail. Do you find it very useful? It would be great if you could put a rack on that rail system so that you could carry a ladder.

Do you find that the cover leaks at all? I am on the west coast in Vancouver so our winter consists of lots of steady rain.

i want to keep things dry in the box. What is your overall thoughts on this cover?

Thanks
