could someone plz school me on backspacing and how to determine it for custom wheels?

i am trying to figure out what is the fattest tire/wheel combo for my truck that will fit w/o too much rub. it's a 2 wheel drive short box regular cab 2004 silverado w/ 4.8L v8 & 5speed trans.

i'll be going with something similar to these American Racing 767s:

wrapped with some thing like 50 or 55 profile BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires

all advice is appreciated, i'm going for a NASCAR cup car wheel/tire look. truck is stock height, what size wheels/tires do i need? i was thinking maybe 15x8 with 295/50/15 tires? anyone who has done this please offer up your sizes. what rubs/doesn't rub, etc...

thanks in advance

thx jennabear, i'll be going with 295 tires, most likely. i like when the centercap is recessed back into the wheel, wouldn't i want like 3-4" of backspace to get that look?

also, does anyone know a wheel that looks just like the one in my original post, but doesn't have that goofy red & blue striped lip??

thanks in advance

15" wheel will NOT fit an 04 truck. You need to have a 16" rim min. The 15" rim will rub on your front brake caliper.

i just learned that from another forum. they said 2005+ can fit a 15" wheel, but 2004 i'll have to take a grinder to the front brake calipers which i'd rather not do. i am thinking 16x8 up front and 16x10 out back. anyone know what size tires i should buy to minimize rubbing??

also, regarding my earlier question about a plain black wheel of this pattern:

the Pacer Daytona is the same pattern but no goofy red & blue stripe. here's a pic:

and NASCAR themselves make a pretty slick looking wheel, but it's a good bit more expensive:
