A/c Turning On Automatically?

I have a 2000 Silverado ext. cab 4x4 w/ the 5.3L. The weird thing I've noticed as of late was that no matter what setting(floor/vent/defrost) I have the a/c automatically turns on. Where as before I had to manually push the button. In the summer this would be great but in the winter time while trying to warm up a car it's a PITA. Is there something I have done that would cause this and is there a way to make this stop outside of pressing the a/c button every time to turn it off. Thanks.

Do you have it in the recirculate mode? If so put it in vent and see if it turns off.

Is the compressor running or is it just cold air? If the compressor is running you could try disconnecting the battery for a while to see if that will reset everything....otherwise I'd be looking at the control panel or a stuck/faulty actuator.

Compressor is running. Thankfully i can just hit the A/C button and turn it off, I'm just not certain why the a/c is turning on automatically as soon as I put the fan in the on position no matter what setting(floor/vent/or defrost). I'll try to do a reset via negativer terminal on the battery. Thanks.

Compressor is running. My 2000 GMC 5.3 started doing something similar last night. I had the heat on then all of the sudden the ac light came on and so did the rear window defroster. WTH? Couldnt turn them off until I turn the truck off and then back on. Also when tryin to go from vent to recirculate, the recirculate button just flashes and then stays on vent. Today got in and all the lights came on for all the buttons and nothing worked. Turned the truck off, back on and then it worked fine. Control panel need to be replaced?

I had the all lights on issue the other day too. I just turned the truck off and back on again. No clue what the heck is going on....lol. I'm really started to consider looking for an 08/09 GMC replacement truck...lol. She has served me well for 10 years
