Recommended Posts

hey all.

i have a 2007 nbs and the front tires are wearing uneven. i have a set of bfg at tires on it. the tires are wearing on the outside edges but only every second tread is worn. im starting to get a bad vibration.

do these tires just need a balance or do i have bigger issues...

any help would be appreciated.

Get your alignment checked. They should also check your steering components for any play... most shops do that before an alignment anyways.

Edit: they'll probably also need to rebalance those tires and put them on the rear to smooth out the tread. but the root cause is likely an alignment issue

+1 alignment has been an issue on these trucks

if alignment doesnt fix the vibration or uneven tire wear it could also be that your front bearings, had this problem on my 06 with some were around 40,000 miles on it. but would def. have the alignment done first.

If there's enough play in the front bearings to cause wear like that, and they don't find it while checking the front end before an alignment, that tech needs to find another job!

Get the truck aligned like others said, these trucks aren't aligned from the factory, it seems. I had horrible wear on my stock tires, I had them aired up to 40psi in the front.

the truck just had an alignment 6-8 months ago. is it possible for the truck to be out of alignment that soon? all i do is hiway driving... no offroad.. i do get a humming sound when i coast to a intersection not sure if its the tires or sumtin else

Depends on how good of an alignment they did. Did they print you out a spec sheet to show your alignment values? I'd bring it back to that shop and ask them to put it up on the rack to check the alignment...

And it is possible that parts have worn in the past 6-8 months throwing the alignment off too... so make sure they check the front end out really good.

Mine were wearing uneven on the inside of the tread. it was my upper ball joints which i replaced. the truck had an alignment at 5000 miles after i leveled it. Using a floor jack lift the truck under the lower control arm and check for movement when you move the bottom and top of the wheel and tire in and out. You may really have to put some muscle into it,lol.

now that i think about my tires wore really bad on the inside edge when my bearings went, not the outside edge, which makes sense because the bearing was broken down on one side so the tire was sticking out further at the bottom, my bad its def. not the wheel bearing causing the outside edge of the tire to wear down.

Do much high speed cornering? If not get it aligned at a different shop. You might need new Ball Joints. This is MAJOR PROBLEM with NNBS trucks. I believe GM has a service bulletin for it also.

they are cupping...bad ball joints and or tie rods...i wouldnt even bother paying for an alignment until i got a new front end...once tires are cupped bad they will never be the same till they are almost worn off lol.....
