Tire Rubbing?

I just put some new Cooper Zeon LTZs on my 07 Sierra NBS. I put the exact same size as the original tires. (275 55 r20) The first day when making a hard right, I heard what sounded like the tire ripping the front end off. It was aloud pop. It was the right front. Would these tires be any larger even though they are the same specs as the original. And would that cause them to catch on something. I also noticed that my TPMS for the right front is not reading. Any correlation?

All tires vary a bit in size in spite of the printed size. The more likely problem is the blocky thread of the Zeons. I'm quite sure one of them has snagged the rear of the plastic inner fender liner. You can either trim about an inch off of the bottom of the plastic (no harm) or you can attempt yo tie it back a bit. I'd cut it if it were me.

I just ran out and took a look. Although it appears that it would clear it, the sound I heard would make perfect sense with your diagnosis. I don't have an air saw, what would be the best thing to use to cut that plastic. Thanks for your feedback.

It's pretty soft plastic. Pop the two round plastic retainers out and trim it using tin snips of a good pair of scissors. You can also gain a little clearance by slightly bending the fender lip where those two clips are. It not something anybody will ever notice.

Thanks again for the response. Now that I am confident that your idea will work, I am liking them much more. I think they look great and the road noise has been pretty minimal compared to the stock tires that came on it. Oddly enough, I had not even considered that there might be a difference in noise until I joined the forum and read about it. Thanks to folks like you who have way more knowledge about these things, I think I made a good decision. On the downside, looking at all these great trucks on this site is going to end up costing me a bunch of money in the long run. Happy New Year.

a razor blade will make quick work of that plastic as well. are you running aftermarket wheels ?

for the tpms sensor, there is a reset procedure in your owners manual. i would try resetting all of the sensors, the calibration may have just been thrown off.

I had a similar issue with my coopers rubbing the mud flaps, but the RC 2" leveling kit fixed that permanently. Since you just got your tires, I'm betting the TPMS weren't re-programmed and why ones not reading. I've had them now for about 12,000 miles and really like them. They do awesome in the snow!

I am running the stock wheels, but today in the daylight I was able to see exactly where the tire was rubbing. I actually think the wheel well liner has come a bit loose and caused it to protrude a bit. I may not even have to cut anything. It should be a really quick and easy fix thanks to you guys.

It is funny you responded. Your comments and pics are one of the main reasons I went with the Coopers. I appreciate you sharing the info.
