Grease Chassis..?

I was looking in the service section of the manual and noticed it said to lubricate and grease the chassis??? WHat the heck is this and can I do it myself??

Nice, I do all my own oil change, tire rotation, so should I do this??

Keep in mind on most newer vehicles there are very few if any spots to grease anymore, since the industry has gone to non-greaseable joints. So you may only find 2 on your '09. Look around thoroughly and inspect all parts while you're there.

Yeah that's kind of stupid they went to non-serviceable parts. My 99 has 8 grease fittings up front. I wish everything was greadeable.

They prefer to get everyone's money instead of just those who neglect to maintain their vehicles. My neighbor and I went to get his wife's Explorer back on the road when she got a transmission leak. Figured we could patch it temporaily, add fluid and then do the repair ourselves. Nope, sealed transmission meant we couldn't add fluid. My truck has its fuel filter in the gas tank. No $5 filter replacement for me (and, I assume, most of us here), gotta drop the tank.

No you don't drop the tank and change the filter. Its made with the pump and is non serviceable. Its made to lase the life of the pump. It will get changed when the fuel pump goes out and gets changed. :flag:

Nope. Flex fuel trucks do, at least some of them I know do. '04 was when they did the change

When the non greaseable parts go replace them with MOOG replacements. These all have Zurk fittings, and are really good quality parts.

The change was made in 2004 with the exception of the flex fuel and the 4.3 V6. The flex fuel went to the tank in 2005. The 4.3 V6 stayed on the frame rail a while longer. How long, I don't know for sure. I have seen a 2005 mid year production 4.3 V6 that was in the tank. Some say they have seen a 2006 4.3 V6 still on the frame rail. internet claim????? I only saw the 05. I did not see the 06.

This was done to incorporate the returnless fell system. Most other manufacturers have also made this change.

Mine had 6 on the front end from the factory (1 on each ball joint and 1 on the outer tie rods). But I have replaced all the front end so 6 on the front and 4 on the drive shaft. Thus, 10 grease fittings.

However, I heard that the new ones only a have like 2 on the entire truck
