Pcm Re-flash - Dumb Dealerships

Recommended Posts

I had 3.73's installed, and now I need a PCM re-flash to accept the new gears. I called George MAttick Chevrolet in Livonia Michigan and the service guys looked at me like I was a retard. They said they have no idea what the hell I was talking about..... lolol

I cant believe a giant Chevrolet Dealership had no idea how to do a re-flash. Piss poor service!! The manager said he didnt even know what I was talking about, and that he didnt even think a re-flash was mechanically possible. Then he had me speak with his "transmission guy", and that gentleman was completely clueless too. He said "I wouldnt even know where to start with doing something like that"..

The search continues.... Is anybody in Michigan that can help me out? Im 30 miles west of Detroit....

Maybe they thought you wanted him to stand in front of the truck and drop his pants?

Time for a custom PCM tune. Black Bear and Wheatley are forum sponsors and can do this for you. And if anyone were to ever give you a hard time about having an aftermarket tune you now can explain why.

jeeeeezzzzzzzz....+1

Or, just go buy a 2816 - Superchips Tirepaq - Speedo, Tire Size & Gear Calibration.

You've already spent more in fuel looking for a place to do it for you than what the thing is worth.

Wow, the stupidity of some of these dealerships. They are supposed to call the GM Techline or something like that and get have them change it in the system then they can reflash. Since 3.73 is an option it's easy, if it were something screwy like 3.82 or who knows what then they wouldn't be able to.

Your best bet is a tune.

I had the exact same experience when I had 4.10's put in (3.42's were original and had terrible towing capacity). I argued with the Service Manager and told him all he had to do is call the GM Tech line and download the data etc...He went and talked with the Parts Manager and came back that it could not be done. Told him to go to hell and went to the GMC dealer and they took care of it right away. I have not been back to that dealership. Sounds like a great way to keep customers huh?

Thats exactly what I thought since 3.73s are a factory gear.... Stupid buttholes.

Well, the guy at the hotrod shop that did it for me says he know a place that can do it for me tomorrow morning... I hope it gets done dammit... Updates to follow....

I want a tune, but Im kinda broke after the holidays. I have already emailed Justin and he is very nice. I will probably get a tune in a week or so on payday..

Thanks so much guys!

Truth is the dealer didn't want to bother because of either LIABILITY,

comebacks or other hassles for performing a non GM parts or un-

authorized/non dealer modification.

Perhaps IF you had bought the GM gears from the dealer and let them

do the swap they would of had no problem since they would of

charged big bucks to do so.

Same deal for asking the dealer to do CPS or case re-learn with a

PCM burn, or reprogramming for a different tire size and even doing

a TPMS adjustment.

Some will, some won't!

Look at the positive side of this. What are the odds that they would ever detect/look for a custom tune? No warranty concerns at that dealer!

How much did you guys pay for the gear swap? I'd LOVE to go to 4.10's from 3.42's.

I've ordered Corvette servo and 4th hold. I'm hoping they will help with towing.

You will love the 4th hold servo. It definitely completes the servo swap and makes highway driving a lot better. What brand did you order?
