Scangauge

Hey guys, I was thinking of getting a code scanner, and I've heard of the scangauge, but I couldn't find much info about it. Do any of you guys have on? I like all the features that it tells you, especially if you have an older truck without a DIC. Also do you guys know much about the X-Gauge commands, that are more vehicle specific such as HP ratings, trans temp., engine run times, ambient air temps., etc.

Any input or opinions on these would be welcomethumbup.gif

I have one that I've used in my vehicles before the Silverado with DIC. It's relatively simple to use and you can have 4 parameters displayed in "gauge" mode. It will read and clear any codes that you get. Install is easy -- just plug into OBDII port. If you buy one, look into the blendmount (http://store.nexternal.com/mgt/scangauge-ii-c103.aspx) for mounting. It provides a clean install location. If you're running oversize tires, you can account for the % difference in size and read your speed from the scangauge.

One semi-PITA is that you'll have to set up your vehicle parameters -- ie, fuel capacity, but it's a one time thing.

Hope this helps. Here's a pic of it installed on the blendmount on my last truck. Since the new truck has a DIC, I'm going to put it in my wife's Santa Fe.

I have one, works great. I have it set up to show trans temp, HP, MPG, and Intake temp. There is about 30 other things it can scroll through. The thing I dont like about it is if you dont fill the truck up all the way when you get gas it will throw the MPG and HP way off. you have to make adjustments everytime you fill up (how many gallons and the price/gallon). I dont think you have to reset it everytime but it will keep the numbers pretty much dead on if you do.

It also stores information from the day or the trip. So if we go camping, I can go back and see how hot the trans got over the trip, my MPG, avg MPH, how many gallons burned, max rpm, max water temp, and some other things I can remember at this time. Its a pretty handy little toy.

I have scangauge 2 on my 2007 NBS but one thing it cant read is the trans temp,it thinks its like 38 all the time

Mine did that also. I just used one of the other sets of parameters and it worked correctly. But, I really find mine to be useful. The really accurate mpg is great, the water temp also really helped when I was getting an air bubble out of my cooling system. I could easily see small changes in the temperature. Extremely happy with it, especially the price.

I tried the other settings but no dice, it works great on my 2001 TA and my wife 2005 GP

but the only one thing it cannot do is read my trans temp in my truck

They are a cool little toy. I had it mounted in my 95 grand marquis like this......

.........and hope to mount it in a similar fashion in the truck once I get an aftermarket radio in there.

Where did you find an install kit with a pop out plate like that? I like that setup, and I was considering a new radio, but didn't want the big plate around it, but that would fill the gap

Bought it back in early 2005 so I don't remember for sure. I think it was Best Buy. That's on my grand marquis. Not sure if the aftermarket radio adapter is the same for the trucks but the dash opening is similar in size so I would think it might have that plate as well.

Just wondering if anyone used a Scangauge II to calibrate their speedo after changing tire size. I emailed the company and they said you could, but they didn't say if it would correct the speedo on the "scangauge" or the factory speedo.

    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
