Which Octane

I'm getting my truck tuned this Saturday..... I chose the 93

Once you factor mpg gained (93 tune) vs money spent between 89 or 93. The difference isn't that much per tank.

I used the gas prices around my house so the numbers may vary. But at least it gives you an idea.

$2.37 for 89 octane gas x 26 gallons= $61.62 to fill tank.

$2.57 for 93 octane gas x 26 gallons= $66.82 to fill tank.

If you get a 1 MPG increase from the 93 tune then.......

(numbers are just for average)

20 MPG on 89 x 26 gallons = 520 miles per tank

21 MPG on 93 x 26 gallons = 546 miles per tank

You got 26 more miles out of your tank of 93 octane.

Which is a little better than a gallon of gas (using numbers above) $ 2.57 dollars saved

So....

A tank of 89 octane gas is $61.62

A tank of 93 octane gas is $66.82

Minus the $ 2.57 you save ($66.82-$2.57= $64.25)

That gives you a $2.63 difference between filling your tank with 89 and 93.

Not to mention the added power from the 93 tune, the cleaner burning gas, etc....

Now you have to ask yourself is that worth $2.63???

Like I said earlier, I chose the 93.

Oh crap, your 93 octane is 10 cents cheaper than 10% ethanol laced regular 87 octane around here in Florida. :sigh:

I had a 93 tune, then bumped down to 87 and don't really notice much power difference to be honest. My DIC mileage has sucked since the tune, but that's due to the larger and heavier tires that I adjusted for, not the tune's fault. I didn't notice much mileage difference between the 93 and 87 tune.

I'm gettin mine this saturday too and will be getting a 93 octane

One thing to remember: you still have the knock sensor to adjust the timing.

Get the 93 octane tune. If you want to run lower octane gas you won't have a problem. You will lose some power and mileage, but you will be able to run just fine.

If at any time you want all the truck has to offer, just fill-er-up with the good stuff and hang on.

Just had mine done a couple of weeks ago and went with the 93 tune, love it. Justin did say I could run 87 if I wanted too but said he wouldn't run the truck too hard when using it.

How did you have your tune setup. I'm getting mine in April :sigh:
