Big Lifts - Cognito Or Bulletproof

Recommended Posts

Im planning my project. I want to run a min of a 37" tire. I know i need at least 10 inches to accomplish that. Im lookin at Cognito or Bulletproof. Cognito has more info on their site than Bulletproof. I was also looking at both for their 8 inch kit. Could you fit 37 with the 8 inch and maybe a 1.5 in bodylift? Whats your opinions for these companies and if anyone is running could you post pics or links to pics? Thanks:(

For tires i like toyo mt, mickey thompson (any type), Goodyear Duratracs.... Whats your opinions on these in a 37 and anyone know the mileage wear on these?

Also recommended gearing? I have 3.73 stock....

Sorry for all the ??'s but i want to get this all planned thorough

I wouldn't even consider anything less than the 10-12 inch kits if you're going to run 37's. I'm pretty sure both companies use heim steering with their 10-12 kits and both are very high quality. Around $5900 (no upgrades) will get you a complete kit from Cognito, and a basic BP (no upgrades) will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $4500. But, for those prices Cognito does come with Fox Coilovers and BP does not. So ultimately if both kits are equally equipped they will both cost about the same. Just from what I have read, it seems that Cognito is considered to be the best out there. So make some phone calls and see what kind of deals you can come up with. But keep in mind that you can get a 10" FTS with Fox C/O's for around $4000. And for gears I would go with 4.88s.

i say cognito hands down. they ONLY make kits for GM vehicles so they should know their product very very well. my '05 had all cognito front end parts and they were TOP quality. i've also ridden in a truck with a 10-12" cognito and it had a great ride for what it was.

FTS 10"? Whats that short for?

I priced out the Cognito to just over 6K, That included chromed out dual fox shocks, fulls springs, Uniball ball joint in the box upper arms.

I know they use heim too.

Not that i care but what do you guys think the mileage is gonna drop to.... im guessing in the 8 or 9 range.

Do you have a 6.0 or a 8.1 and what year is your truck? My stock 04 regular cab longbed 4x4 with a 8.1 with 3:73's gets 10.5 max on a great day on long trips.

5.3l non flex... 3.73 gearing.

That's going to be a DOG. And not a fast one, either. With a 5.3, I'd re-gear to 5.13's. 37's can be made to work with a 6" suspension, 3" body, and some nifty sawzall work. That's the cheap and effective way to do it, but a true 10"-12" suspension lift is without a doubt that right way to go.

For the money, look for some used Rockwell axles and do a SAS. :puke: That setup is easier and cheaper to lift than IFS.

I definately wouldn't say easier, since there aren't any 1500 kits, but the money is definately in the SFA range. I would personally save a ton of cash and go with a Fabtech with coilovers, a 3" body lift, and some trimming. That will net you 11" of lift, clear 37's and save thousands. :puke:

i personally think that a 6"+3" setup looks better than an 8-10" suspension lift..... i just really don't like the jungle gym look of those huge IFS lifts. $0.02

I have a 6.5 BDS lift with 3" body, 4.88 gears. I was running 37" Mud gapplers with no problem.

Im liking Cognito because they are only GM. They get a lot of good reviews on other sites too. I actually like all of their kits. They 7-9 inch kit looks pretty good to. The only thing is the tire size is not listed on the site. It looks high. Higher than BDS.... I was saying 37's and 12" because its about 500 bucks more than than the 7-9" kit and 35's.

The truck will have plenty of power by the time the lift(whichever i choos) is on.
