What Chevy Truck Was This?

I am on my way to work and I pull up behind what I believe was a new Silverado. It had paper plates and then I noticed it said Cheyenne instead of Silverado. I looked at the lettering and it looked like it was factory lettering.

It was a LT, Black, regular cab and looked like a short bed. It didn't have any chrome wheels but looked like one of the upper line model wheels that could come on a LTZ.

I have googled Cheyenne and it is not the concept truck I saw. The bed and tail lights were just like my 09's.

Is this a special model truck, I never saw one of these advertised.

Any idea what year this could be?

+1

That's what they're called in mexico. Although I've heard of some people who just buy the letters, take off the word "silverado" and put cheyenne on the side. Kind of like how some people will put "SS" on a regular Silverado.

in the gmt400 trucks (1988-98) the words Cheyenne and Silverado were designated for different trim levels... in 1999 the name Silverado was adopted for all Chevrolet pickups and various letters were used for trim levels.

I have a 1997 Cheyenne ... which is a relatively basic trim level

Cheyenne used to be our work truck package, but in mexico Cheyenne is the top of the line truck,

Yes. They have the Cheyenne with LT package and LTZ package. Also they have The Silverado but is the work truck with manual transmission.

Easy, most americans dont want a MT anymore. I think either '05 or '06 was the last year. Sales were less than 6% of all 1/2 tons in the U.S.

At one time, Cheyenne was the highest trim level on a Chevy truck. "Custom" was the basic work truck level. That was in the early 70's when my brother had a Cheyenne. Somewhere down the road, the Cheyenne yielded the top trim level position to "Silverado". It seems like that was in the late 70's ???

... on my 1976, there was Custom, then Custom Deluxe, then Cheyenne ... for the three trim levels

Sounds about right. Mid to Late 70's. I had a '71 Chevy Custom/10 and that thing was as bare as bare can get, but still a good truck. No A/C in the California High Desert during summer was fun.
