Open The Door On 2010 Gmt900 And Snow Falls In!

Hey Guys,

 

Sorry if this topic has been covered before. I used the search and didn't notice anything posted though I only checked a couple pages.

 

This is my situation; In the mornings when I go to work or when the truck is parked during a snowy day the roof and door seals are all covered in snow. Before I go to open the door I wipe the truck roof and door seals down to limit the snow (sometimes I am unable to do this). When I open the door small amounts of snow falls inside the truck and onto the drivers seat, into the seatbelt plastic cover (where the seatbelt recoils into) and into the floor on my floor mats (minor issue). I brush it off but I don't get 100% of the snow away, forcing me to sit in some snow (lol) though its not enough to cause discomfort. I am concerned/afraid for the long term effects of this on my seats and "seat belt recoil mechanism" (dont know the true name for it).

 

My seats are black cloth. Also my father has a gmt800 ('95) and he experiences the same problem as myself. We both believe the reason why this occurs is because the door frame curves up and over to the top of the roof. So the door opens more on the top of the truck then on the side.

 

I'd like to hear the thoughts on this issue. I really don't want to get seat covers as I feel a) the overall look of the interior will degrade and b) i find these seats extremely comfortable.

Mine does it too.

 

FYI a 95 model year GM truck is a GMT-400, 99-07 classic are GMT-800, 07 new body style to present are GMT-900.

My '07 does that too, of course...same design. My previous '02 YukonXL was the same. I've only had the '07 for 2 winters so too early to say if there will be an issue.

The '02 YukonXl went thru 6 Canadian winters, no issue due to snow. I always try to remove as much as possible of course before opening the door.

I usually keep a snow brush by the door in the house during the winter months. that way, if it's snowed over night, I can use that brush to clean off the truck, thus minimizing any snow into the vechicle when I open the doors.

I have to agree. I'm originally from upstate New York, so I've been dealing with this problem my whole life. So far, in my years of driving, the falling in snow hasn't created any mechanical or even health effects (water in upholstery over time can be an issue for obvious reasons), but I make sure to clean the truck pretty thoroughly during the summer. The best advice I can offer is have a snow brush in your house/apartment by the door, take that with you when you walk out to your truck, and then brush it off before getting in. Some snow will get in - that's unavoidable - but taking a brush with me when I first walk out to the truck kept a lot of snow from getting in the cab.

Very true indeed. Another thing you could do if you're particularly worried about it is drape a towel over the seat and just remove it when you get in. That way the snow gets on your towel, you remove it and sit on the dry seat underneath.

Thats every vehicle out there unless you have it garaged . Snow+gravity and open door.....it sucks

Happens to me too. I just open the door very slowly, start my truck to warm up, then shut the door and knocks most snow off for when I go get back in.

Unreal what some people complain about. All vehicles do this unless they design a vehicle that the roof hangs over the door sills.
