Just wondering if anyone commutes long distances, or has a secondary vehicle that they rack-up miles on which is good on gas.

Travel 80 miles a day which hurts my pocket, have to refill every 4 days, I've decided i rather buy a little beater to commute with.

2008 Mazda3 with 2.0L and manual. 31 mpg mixed city highway. 1996 Ranger 2.3 manual 24 mpg mixed.

For beaters you can't beat the civics and CRX's they just keep going.

Winter I drive the truck, but in the summer its the 2003 Kawasaki Z1000. 60 mile round trip to work and back. Right now I am still trucking it. waiting for the lows temps at night to be at least 45-50. I leave for work at 530am when its still pretty cool out.

Truck AVG's 15-17 mpg

Bike AVG's 35-39 mpg

I have a 01 Civic that is my daily beater 66% of the time, on some days I'll take the truck and on Friday/Casual days its the bike or truck... I get like 33-35 mpg on it.

My Truck is my Daily driver, I used to have a second gas miser vehicle but would run for the truck each time.

I love driving my truck and can't stand being cramped into a tiny bucket seat.

Simply Love driving my truck all the time.

with my truck i drive about 40km to work everyday one way. Thats with some gravel road and highway driving mixed together. it will get 200kms to a half tank haha. its brutal. I just drove to edmonton last weekend and i got 250kms to a quarter tank so my truck is really good on long drives not so much for work tho

Why have 2 vehicles? The truck serves all purposes well for me. If you can't afford the fuel then you can't afford a truck.

For me...simple. I don't feel like starting up my Duramax truck to drive 5 mins to the grocery store. Plus all the mileage it puts on it that a less expensive car can be used for.

For me, it's not all about affording the fuel. I'm sure others would agree.

My truck is my daily driver. I drive 37 miles to work. Mileage is not bad I gas up once a week even though I'm pushing 74 miles a day.

I have a 96 Crapalier with 192,000 mi. Its definetly a beater but it starts every day and has never left me stranded. The best thing about a beater is you don't have to worry about cleaning it or care about it getting a scratch. :)

2001 Chevy Suburban LT 4x4....its got 150K on the clock....thought I could live with just the truck, however I just couldn't see racking up the miles on it.....I drive about 3K a month, or even using it to haul stuff(I know, its a complete waste) but I like my Suburban cause its my truck with a "topper" that can haul anything!

Once in a while we'll take the wifes '08 Saturn Aura...but I'm most comfortable in my Silverado. The plan was to buy out the wifes lease and use the truck for towing the camper and work around the house, but with Saturn out of business, looks like the truck is not gonna catch a break, we will not be keeping the Saturn
