Newer Model Impala Ss Vs New Vw Gti Race?!?

So here I was minding my own business going down the road on my way home when 2 cars fly past me 1 right after the other. There was a red Impala SS newer model (not the old 90s) and a new VW GTI, following about 2-3 car lengths behind, engine reving high, exhaust that tilted upward (never got why morons did that) and still had the temporary license plates on it from what I could see. They had to have been doing in excess of 100 as I was going 65 and they passed me as though I was standing still. Now I know the new GTI is supposed to be a very fast car from what I've heard, but what the hell is in the Impala SS!? I thought it was just a 3.8 Supercharged! There is no way in hell a GM Supercharged 3.8 V-6 is faster then the GTI! There had to be more!! Someone enlighten me.

Could have been the 5.3 V8 version. And don't discount the SC 3.8. Done right and they get some big power out of them.

The newer (newest style) has the 5.3 I believe

Yes,The '06-'09 Impala SS's (And '06-'07 Monte Carlo SS's) have the 303 hp LS4 5.3 V8.

The Pontiac Grand Prix GXP's and Buick Lacrosse Super's also have the same 5.3 V8.

Yup- 5.3 v8!!

My use to have an 06.. i loved that car! So damn quick! The torque steer on the front was crazy... Some times it felt like it was rear wheel drive the way it would pull the crap outta the front and the back couldnt keep up. It was a factory sleeper!

Heres some pics of hers.. she got rid of it for a equinox tho cause we live in buffalo ny, and tho the car did awesome in the snow.. It obviously did not even try and go thru the 1-2 foot drifts at the entrance of driveway....

Those 06-07 Monte Carlo SS's are badazz. I used to rent one every week for about 6 months when I had to travel back and forth to Memphis for work. I was going to buy one back then and still might. I think they will be collector's items one day. It's a two door full body V8....could easily be a muscle car.

Not with front wheel drive it wont. :shakehead::lol:

If only chevy would put power to the right wheels again. FWD is for econo-boxes and jap crap.

All in all though...they are very very nice cars.

True, RWD is the way to go. GM is supposedly rumored to be adding new RWD sedans to its line up. Cadillac is supposed to bump the RWD CTS up in size, and I think motor trend had a list of a few new RWD vehicles being added. With the police market only Caprice import from Holden-Australia, its only a matter of time before they start to build them here, and expand the platform.

Yeah there were talks a while back about the Impala being based of the Holden body...basically a 4 door GTO. Back than it was rumored to be powered by a 3800 for the base model, 5.3 for the LT and a 6.0L Z06 engine for the SS model. Would be really nice to see this come out now and be available with an LSA 6.2 SC engine like the CTS-V has.

Nice if they brought back the Monte too with this drivetrain.
