Sirius, Instead Of Xm

Newbie to the site, so go easy on me.

We just traded in our 01 Suburban, for an 08 Denali XL. What a difference between the 2 vehicles. Its got the Nav, DVD, & XM.

My question is I cant stand XM. What has to be changed to catch the Sirius signal, instead of XM?

XM and Sirius are the same channels nowadays since the merger. The only difference is you can add "the best of Sirius" on your XM and vice versa. i.e. channel 81 is BPM on XM...but its channel 38 on Sirius. Same programming, just different channel locations.

No, its really not. I installed XM for friend the other day and tuned it to "The Highway" which is my normal channel (Sirius 60 XM 16?). On sirius it doesn't have commercials, on XM there are apparently ads injected and commercials. I was surprised because I though it was all the same too, but there are apparently ads injected on XM and not Sirius; at least on some channels.

As far as how to change it over, there used to be a Sirius modules that would replace the XM module in your truck. Otherwise just go with one of the dockable radios.

well... i have xm in my 2010 silverado and sirius in my 97 silverado and their the same other than the station #. the music anyway theres no commercials on my xm highway my friend has xm in his 08 vette and must be hes got a cheap package subscription because hes missing alot of channels that i have music channels i dont have the best of xm

Is there any diff, between the complimentary XM subscription, and the "you pay for it, real deal" ?

If so, then thats why XM sucks so much, but its still not the same as the Sirius "add-on" receiver that has all of your favorites and alerts you when your favorite songs pop up. If so its nothing than more than a lame Satellite receiver.

i dont what you guys are talkin about, i have only herd commercials on the talk stations, opie & anthony ect, and they are few and far between. I have never herd a commercial on a music station.

There is 1 major difference between Sirius and XM in our Northern region (BC Canada just below the Alaska border) the XM satelites are a lot lower on the horizon, so major sections of highway are completely without signal particularly in the valleys, Sirius works throughout the area, I'm currently trying to find a Sirius conversion module that works with my new 2010 Sierra Denali..... still looking

X2....this has been my experience as well. Hardly ever lost signal with Sirius plug and play units. With XM (GM factory set up)it drops out almost constantly. This could be because of the factory antenna used for XM though, never tried the plug and play units. I have also heard even though XM and Sirius are now the same company they do use different satellites in different locations. Never took the time to find out if it was true though.

XM has been problem free for me. I enjoy it very much. With the channels I listen to I have yet to notice any commercials, just upcomming programming issues.

I do however notice how crappy sounding it is when I tune to the Weather Channel/Emergency Channel, or some of the talk radio shows, seems that some of the voices are over digitalized.

This is one of those locatio location location issues, we get maybe 5% coverage from XM up here, just spoke to TSS-Radio, they recomend using a mag antenna rather than the built in GM fish tail becuase the gain on the fishtail is optomized for XM, it will work but it depnds upon the signal strength as to how well it will work

Ordered the SIRGM2 it's fitted and works like a charm
