Hey everybody,

First time on any forum. Looking for answers, suggestions regarding problem with rear u joints on 06 2500 duramax. Replaced carrier bearing and rear u joint 6 mos. and again 2 weeks ago. First was at dealership the second at reputable mechanic. Will I have to keep this up every 6 mos?

Welcome!

No you shouldn't have to replace it again very soon. Perhaps the first was damaged during installation, causing it to fail. Or it was never lubed after installation, providing it had a zerk on it.

Buy a quality u-joint with a grease zerk and you shouldn't have a problem

Welcome to the site.. Can't help you much about the issue.. but if you had it done at GM... it was covered for 12 months, 12,000 miles parts and labor. You should have taken it back.

Good luck

First off, welcome to the forum. Second, I would have to agree with the above posts that it shouldnt be failing every 6 months. If it happens again, I would start looking for other reasons as to why its failing.

Best of luck.

Welcome to GMT.

No you shouldn't have to keep changing them out. Sounds like something isn't machined properly.

Thanks everyone for responding. Contacted GM dealership today. I have the rear u joint they installed along with invoice for work and will return on Friday along with statement and invoice from mechanic that installed the 2nd one.
