Power Folding Mirrors And Carwashes

Recommended Posts

Last time I went through an automatic car wash the brushes forced my mirrors to fold forward. I pulled them back into place and they still work correctly - I'm just wondering if I keep going through the car wash if it will eventually damage them or if it is cool to just keep straightening them?

Thanks.

Yeah, ...why wouldn't you just fold them in before going into the wash? I always do.

that is why they have power folding mirrors. Do you guys actually use a touch car wash? That is crazy!!! Hope you like scratches and a poor car wash

Actually, a properly maintained "touch" car wash will do a much better job than a touchless will. I stress 'properly maintained' ...if the brushes get too dirty with grit and what not, then you get the scratches. I have yet to find a touchless car wash that measures up to a true full service drive thru wash. The spray jobs are good for a quick wash to get the salt off in winter, but for a good shine job, it's the full service touch wash all the way. (with the mirrors folded in of course!)

No, this will not damage your mirrors.

BUT.... you should fold them in! Remember the lasers control the car wash around the perimeter of your truck... the move further out since your mirrors are sticking out. Fold them in for a more "uniform" wash and to get the front of the mirrors cleaned off too.

Matt is correct. You need to fold them. Most places down here tell you that. If you care for your paint, use a touchless wash. All drive thrus and wand joints leave some dirt film on the truck, unless it is just dust and no road film from rain, snow, morning dew etc.

To get your truck clean requires a hand wash. To properly care for your paint, the hand wash needs to be a two bucket wash and dried with proper towels. see video #5:

I don't use auto washers where you drive, go to the do-it-yourself wash. Just go and use the pressure nozzle and do a 10x better job at just about the same price.

Also, before the brush touches my truck I power spray it off first then I have none of the problems spoken of.

Never taken my truck to car washes, I always wash it myself. But if I did I would fold them before going through the carwash.

I can't believe the number of truck afficianados that take theeri trucks to car washes! Geeze! Get a bucket, a hose, and a mitt and wash it your self! WAY better result at WAY less cost!!

In the winter, going through a Touch-Free car-wash would be a good idea, to get all the salt off.

Buffalo, NY winters almost demand a touchless wash once a week. Delta Sonic is always happy to comply. Outside of winter, buckets and a hose...

^Thank you sir! Even if you power wash the brush at a car wash, those bristles are just to hard and leave scratches. Also, when you hand wash, you rinse the mit after every panel or so. The dirt gets washed off then
