Flash Drive Vs Ipod

Hey guys, this is the first time i have wrote in this forum and first time I have ever owned a truck, I have just ordered my 2010 chevrolet silverado lt and looking for some guidance. I understand that the 2010 lt and ltz have a usb port and looking at what I should pick up to utilize it. Wanna use my bose stereo system to its full potential, so what does everyone advise.

 

Is there sound difference between a flash drive and ipod when connected to usb?

 

I understand that both show track information on the stereo which I love, but are both easily accesible by using steering wheel controls?

 

Is the only difference that with the Ipod you can make playlists?

I use the ipod and its great I put all my music on and just leave it hooked up and hid in my glovebox. I like the ipod cause the radio will let you take full control over it and you can play the music just like you would if you was using ipod controll. The sound is great i dont know if there really is a difference. I think both will work good for you. Congrats on the new truck and dont forget pictures when you get it.

I'm with the ipod myself, more control over the exact song you're listening to. Better interface for music. I'd go with the ipod.

Right now im using a 16gb flash drive right now because I dont have a IPOD and it sounds like a cd to me. Im still learning how to control it though. Ipod may have more control I dont know. Im going to watch this hopefully others will chime in with more experience.

I use both. The issue I have is converting all my ITUNES (.mp4 files) to .mp3 files. It is easier just to play the ipod.

I use an iPod & have a 500 GB HD that I keep in the truck with my entire library on. I think each has it's advantages, but the iPod is definitely easier to use.

 

*Here is a free m4a to mp3 converter. It will convert them in bulk and is super easy to use.

Yes it does charge the IPOD. The only issue is when the truck is off it doesnt turn the IPOD off or keep charging it.

Well picked up the 160gb ipod classic, cant wait till i pick the truck up in the next couple days and let the tunes flow.

Get a used ipod , put all ur music on it and hook it up and put it in ur glovebox and ur good to go. I never worry about turning off or on or charging it.

Actually, it does power off the iPod when the key is removed.

As an aside, when I use the remote start, apparently the power to the usb or power point is reduced as they don't provide enough power to run the HDD.

 

FWIW, I'm using a Hitachi USB HDD with a Y cable connected to the USB port and a powered USB via the powerpoint in the console. When started with the key, everything is groovie goolies.
