8000 Miles Without Oil

My brother had an '02 2500HD that showed no oil on the dipstick when he went to get the oil changed. He only went 3,000 miles between oil changes and had checked it a couple of times during that time. When he pulled in to get the oil changed, the tech popped the hood and pulled the dipstick. He shoved it back in and pulled it back out, but there was no oil on it. He had my brother re-check it and nothing showed up on the dipstick. The truck did have some oil in it when they took the plug out, but only about three quarts. The oil pressure gauge showed normal and no warning lights came on. His truck was 3.5 years old and only had around 20K miles on it when this happened.

I have an 01 2500hd and if my truck is about 3/4 of a quart low the "check engine oil level" light will come on my dash.

I am not sure but i think the GMT900 has no low oil level sensor.

 

My 09 Silverado owner's manual refers to a low oil pressure warning light and says the DIC will throw a "OIL PRESSURE LOW STOP ENGINE" message, but doesn't make a reference to any type of low oil level warning of any type. Of course, if the oil level gets low enough, then you'd get the low oil pressure warnings. :D

Went to a national chain to get my oil changed. Right before I took the wife and kids on vacation. We traveled through everykind of terrain from 7500' elevation to the sea level and through death valley. I did notice slightly less gas milage and a brief knock at start up. I took it last week to get an oil change(at a differant place) after our adventure and was immediately taken into the office and asked to sign a waiver, because the last place I took it to drained the oil and changed the filter, but did not add the NEW OIL. I am seeking an attorney to take care of the national chain (any suggestion) but I am incredibly impressed with GM's motor. I have a 2009 sierra

You would have a yellow LOW OIL LEVEL light go on when you turn on the ign. switch as a check of the systems. Without it there is no LOL system.

I didnt even know it was out till i went to the gas station and the guy who filled it up told me that the last guy who supposedly filled it up never put in any gas in it at all. Wierd i know! The low fuel light never even came on and the gas gauge showed full the whole time!!! :)

haha. he tried but i figured i would talk to my lawyer first. Ive heard of this happening before. My wife's dad has a sis n law whos nephews 3rd cousin(twice removed) knows a guy whos buddy had this happened to also. So it must be true.

At least YOU had the common sense not to sign a waiver.  :D At least you'll have a witness to the injustice of paying for gas and not getting it. Or wait, did Chuck Norris pee in your gas tank, cause I've heard of someone who let Chuck Norris pee in there gas tank and they drove 13,000 miles and the gauge never moved.

      How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit.

      Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?

      What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way to big should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crosing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
