Dashboard Lights

's happened a few times now. Periodically, when I get into the truck ('10 2500), I notice that I cannot read the clock and have to readjust the lights to see it! What's up with that? Why would the lights just periodically dim like that? It's not something that happens accidentally since we all know you have to pop the control out and then twist it to adjust . . .

Is it when you first pull out of the garage? The headlights come on automatically and dim the IP lamps.

Nope, not always from garage. Driveway too, in broad daylight. And they stay dim down the road. . .

Do they ever come back to full brightness if you don't readjust the lights? Next time it does it, see if the headlights are on. I bet it has something to do with the light sensor on the dash thinking it is dark out...

I think I'm having a similar problem? recently I've noticed my regular headlamps, parklamps, markers etc.. are staying on longer than usual (could just be my imagination) today driving home it was 7:15 ish and the sun was still out pretty bright and the truck switch over to regular lights and dimmed the dash lighting which made it hard to read. If I recall this typically doesn't happen until dusk. I noticed other newer GM cars/ SUV's & truck around me that were still in daytime mode so I'm confuesed.

Well, it did it again. Sitting in the driveway all morning in sunlight. Drove it in the afternoon and the clock was very faint again. Everything else was fine. Left it alone for most of drive to see if it would change, finally annoyed me enough that I adjusted it myself. What's with this? And why does it only do it once in a while? I bet I take it to the dealer and they say , well, it isn't doing it now so we can't help you!!!

Are your headlights on during this time that your dash dims? If so it could be your ambient light sensor on the top of the dashboard. Make sure it isn't covered or being obstructed

Are your headlights on during this time that your dash dims? If so it could be your ambient light sensor on the top of the dashboard. Make sure it isn't covered or being obstructed

 

As in full headlights? Never checked. Sensor is definitely not obstructed.
