2010 6 Spd Auto

Anyone else having any issue with their 6 spd transmissions?

Mine is driving me nuts (especially on a brand new truck).

Shifts are very indecisive, holds some gears too long, cant decide which gear other times,

when coming to a stop shifts into 1st, engine RPMs rise and truck tries to take off

for a few seconds - scary.

And, the shifts are just so sloooooow.

Any known issues like this? TSB maybe?

Thanks for any input.

(No I haven't contacted the dealer yet, I suffer from an incurable case of idetestdealeritis;)

If you just came from a older GM truck with the 4 speed auto and the 6 speed

is driving you NUTS from shifting all the time...................Join the club!

Since its a 2010 it prob. has the current updates so a dealer visit is a waste of time.

Just relax and ignore it! After a while you will be used to it and it won't bother

you anymore! Been there and done that!

Tuning will remove the majority of those issues. But it does make the shifts a bit firmer. Not a problem for me b/c I didn't buy it expecting it to shift like a Lincoln.

I had mine tuned a year ago and I had forgotten how bad the stock shifting was. I was able to go back and forth between stock and tuned once EFILive released the Autocal and I just recently put it back to stock to take in to the dealer for miscellaneous warranty work. I was amazed at the difference. I didn't remember it being that bad.

It's back to being tuned and I'm happy once again. :)

how many miles do you have on the truck?

If you dont have about 800 miles yet I would wait to go to the dealer until then. I hated mine for the frst 2 months then it got better

The trans need to go through a "learning" stage. It will adapt to your driving style. Give it some time if you havent already. Sounds crazy but its true.

I agree. I am waiting for Justin to modify my tune and I have it back on stock now and there is a huge difference.

I have seen this same behavior but it is not consistent, it comes once in a while and disappear for a long time. Min is 4 speed.

I doubt this has to do climate, intake air temp?....adaptation,,not sure

Exactly. The first few weeks/months (depending on how many miles you put on daily) with the 6spd is rough as it learns your driving style and optimizes its shift points. This is one of the reasons that make it annoying when someone posts "i test drove a truck with the 6spd today and didnt like the shifting".

So if you just got the truck, it'll probably get a lot better.

If you have a good amount of miles on it though, you may want to call the dealer to get it checked out. Could be a programming issue... especially if it's "surging" like you claimed; i never had that during the break in period.

I'm one of those :) But I agree, if you don't have that many miles on it, maybe wait a little longer and see if it gets better. But is there an actual number of miles that the transmission should have been finished learning?

Another reason i can't wait until you get your new truck! :banghead:

I'm not sure if there is a specific number of miles. As with any optimization program there's probably certain parameters that it monitors and adjusts its settings incrementally. My truck only took about 3 weeks at roughly 25 miles/day (so somewhere in the 500-600 mile range)... but i drive my truck on the same exact roads, speeds, etc daily... so that probably helped. I'd imagine that a truck used for more sporadic/random trips would take significantly longer.

My situation would be about the same. 15 miles each way to the office, pretty consistent each day.

And go STEELERS!

In the first 2,000 I would have gladly given up the 6 sp but now at about 4,000 miles I can't tell any difference between it and my last truck (4-sp).

I was told the Transmission has a learning computer.

Relative to adaptive learning, the transmission does NOT change shift points. If it were possible for a driver to provide the same accelerator pedal input, it would shift at the same speed at 50 miles or 5000 miles or 50,000 miles.

By far the major area of adapting is on certain parameters that affect shift quality (shift feel). This transmission is known as a clutch to clutch transmission (as opposed to a freewheeler) meaning that virtually every shift involves an offgoing clutch and an oncoming clutch (there are some variations on that theme, but that's basically how it works).

When a shift occurs, characteristics of the shift are measured and then if necessary, control of the offgoing and/or oncoming clutches are modified so the next time that shift occurrs it will be more to the defined requirements of the shift.

There are some other areas of operation that the transmission adapts on but shift quality is by far the biggest.

Generally speaking the transmission does not learn your driving habits. Except that it has the ability to adapt light, moderate, and heavy throttle (torque) shifts separately from each other (sort of, it's a bit complicated to explain here)

The 2007-8 2500 HD's do adapt Tow Haul shift quality separately from Normal Shifting, but again this is shift feel only not shift points. Obviously though, the shift points are different in Tow Haul than in normal (default) mode.

It doesn't switch between freeway driving and towing based on load. The biggest change in operation occurs when the Tow Haul switch is activated.

There is no specific mileage (such as 10,000 miles) where the trans changes adapt strategies. It does adapt shift feel more rapidly in the early stages of operation than later on, but that change is based more on the consistent measurement of shift quality characteristics than a specific mileage. Typically that change is much sooner than 10,000 miles. If there is ever a dramatic change in shift quality parameters the trans may be allowed to adapt more rapidly again.

There really is no strong tie to adapting and fuel mileage. Don't expect a drastic change at 10,000 miles based on any adapting of the transmission.

i dont have any complaints about mine2010 6speed. It dose shift a little soon some times. Put it in tow haul mode[ it feels a lot better if your do. I always do if im pulling out in front of some one or on the interstate! Try it! It a whole new world.

(Tune) Also if you tune it say bye bye to your warranty! Even if u put it back to stock it will still pop up for gm to see its been tuned and your fu*ked! The only way to get a tune is to get another stock CPU and have it tune and swap it out and put the stock one back in when you take to dealer. The only tune our so far that says it will not show up at gm is Diablosport as lock as u put stock settings back in.

we are the only company that can get around the GM PCMs. We employ several X-GM calibrators who know the in's and out's of the GM PCMs. YOu should have no problems as long as you put the truck back to stock factory settings.

Sounds more of a sales pitch to me. Their credibility is low IMO. They told their customers that they were working on TCM support just to sell programmers, and they weren't. Thus i wouldn't put it past them to also make that claim about warranty and it not be true.

Again, just MY opinion.

If i was buying a programmer today, other than the Autocal from BB i'd get the Superchips Cortex.

I have a 2010/5.3/6 speed and it shifts ok except I hate when it downshifts for any type of incline. I did trailer with mine at 600 miles and maybe that helped get it's "mind right". When cold it shifts a little funky still. Can't wait for winter. Good luck with Yours....this most likely is MY last chevy as overall I'm not very happy with it or the rip off dealer
