Constructive Critisism For Gm

I need to vent a little .......(constructively).

When I buy a $40k truck, I do not want to have to come to a forum such as this to find out about the TSB for "sounds like rear door open".

Nor do I want to have to track down silicon grease to lube my weather strips because of the infuriating creaking due to body flex.

The design of which just be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Do they know how much crud will get into that area?

Come on GM, this is just not acceptable in 2010, especially as these issues have been discovered in previous models, and I am especially upset with the dealership that sold me the truck - they couldn't do the TSB and lube as part of the pre delivery?

I didn't buy a Ford F150 because I don't like the interior or exterior design. I hope I don't get to a point where I regret that decision.

OK, vent over.

Any GM criticism, constructive or not, is not welcome here. Especially by those who are paid by GM to function as public relations types and whose job is to ridicule everyone who criticizes GM on this forum. :D

No matter what you buy, you will find a lemon. Just because you see a couple post about issues, doesn't mean the entire line is screwed up. Some of your gripes are with your dealership and not the manufacture. Those kinds of issues you'll find with alot of dealerships not going the extra mile. I've had almost Zero issues with my 07 so I don't have any gripes. :D

Steven, you have a crew cab truck like mine. If I interpret the complaint correctly, the problem the OP is describing is found only on extended cabs and is well documented. Crew cabs appear to have less body flex. I guess the root of the complaint here is that this problem has been known to GM for a long time and GM should have fixed it by now, not resort to do-it-yourself band aids. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. Similiar to the slip yoke issue as well as the intermediate steering shaft issue since '99.

Gentlemen,

Any vehicle will squeek sometime. They are complex and wonderful machines but nothing is perfect. Having had Fords that were hobbies and Chryslers that just plain sucked eggs, my '00 Silverado is a fresh breath of air.

The darned thing just runs well with no problems at 150k. I bought it at 99k when my Ford literally blew up in a cloud of smoke on I 10 in Blythe, right by the Chevy dealer. There does appear to be a God after all.

My point is, have reasonable expectations of your vehicles. Enjoy what they do well and have a sense of humor about little issues. Hell, I still get compliments on my truck in parking lots.

When you hear a squeek, turn up the Bose. If there is a microdrop of oil slightly dampening the bottom of the engine, revel in the knowledge that you have enough oil in it. Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines used to leak lakes of oil on the ramp and it was said to be a good sign of adequate lube in the tank. No leak, better add a few gallons of oil.

Seriously, these are solid vehicles that always gave me great service and I do beat them up occasionally. Enjoy them. Chevy (and GMC) rock!

Ford built great radios (Philco) but has trouble with anything with gears in it.

My seat apolstery never stays clipped to the drivers seat on the front bottom (fromday1)

I hate the holes in the top of the tailgate.

My slip yoke is very annoying.

I absolutely hate changing a headlight in these trucks.

I have to buy the special wipers for this truck!? (pinch style)

The brakes on these trucks (1500 W/T) are of poor quality.

Why can't I just turn on my cargo light by itself?

But I still love my truck!

Like a rock!

My 99 ext cab Sierra was very noisy (wind noise). So much so, that I when shopping I ruled out the possibility of another. My dad's 04 Silverado ext cab is the same. Honestly, and no offense to owners, but I would have had to buy another brand if I wanted an ext cab. The suicide doors just have more issues than benefits (to me). The Tundra ext cab (double cab) has four "normal" doors, with more leg room in the rear. I think Dodge is the same?

All that said, the crew cabs are quiet and solid. I still have zero rattles, creaks or squeaks. Really, it's the most solid feeling vehicle I've owned (including Toyota/Honda). I can park right next to a Tundra and open/close doors/tailgate and tap on things. The "heft" of the GMC body parts are obvious in direct comparison.

my 2001 ECSB silverado has no windnoise at all... my 2004 silverado ECSB has a little bit coming from the passenger rear...

I understand the frustration, 40k is a lot of money..... however.......

TSBs are not reacalls. TSBs are ways for dealerships to share information. If a problem is discovered a TSB is issued to save other dealerships time in troubleshooting the issue.

Dealerships do not search for TSBs on new cars before delivery. They will only perform the TSB if a customer complains.

Funny thing is, I've had my fair share of problems with my 08 extended cab, but creaks are not one of them :D

The creaking is the top weather seal. A liberal dose of silicon grease between it and the roof fixed the problem, but, I shouldn't have to

find that out here, it should have been done before I picked up the truck!
