Battery Tray Question

I've noticed that the main battery tray is located @ the rear portion of the RH side of the engine compartment. Under the fender/firewall brace. There is an empty tray on the LH side, just behind the rad' support.

Mind you they probably were able to shorten the cables to the battery though .

Oh yes very convienent isn't it. Must be for better left to right weight distribution to offset the driver and fuel tank on the left hand side .

You can use it for a DUEL battery set-up .

It was done so that in a front end collision, the battery will not be destroyed so you can still use the on star function.

The Duramax trucks have two batteries and use both trays. Looks like all of the HD's have both trays whether they use both or not.

It was done so that in a front end collision, the battery will not be destroyed so you can still use the on star function.

 

In other words, GM is not building their trucks as strong as they used to. I've seen some NBS GM trucks at body shops with front end damage. All 5 I've seen all had similar damage done to front end from accidents, and all the plastic is just destroyed. GM needs to use beefier bumpers and less plastic.

No, More safety is built in. The truck absorbs more of the collision than the people in the truck do. Well worth it to me if I'm ever in a head on collision. Yes, it causes more damage, but the truck can be replaced, people can't.

Yes i remember reading about how the frame is suppose to not ride through a rear of a car if the truck rear ended it, and be diverted to turn more downward upon impact or something like that. Forget that! All that damage that the NBS sustains is pathetic to say the least. I prefer a solid front end just like they built them for the past decades. If they stopped making plastic cars and put bumpers back on the cars, the people driving them would not have to worry as much like with todays cars. cars back from the 70's and back all had bumpers made of steal and were built strong. No plastic bumper with a wimpy reenforcer hidden behind it. Automakers are all hell bent on making cars lighter, so they get better power and fuel mileage and whatever other reasons, aredynamics.. It's one thing to make the cars all wimpy, but leave the trucks alone. 18 wheelers are a much bigger threat and they are basically still built the same with metal bumpers.

I figured that, but too bad if the truck only requires 1 battery, that they could've used the forward tray. Much easier for service (you guys do remove the cables when doing electrical work?) & hooking up the cables when boosting a vehicle.

i just had to go outside and look at my 01 2500hd i only see one battery tray. i was kinda hoping i would have two. it would be nice to set up a second battery to run my inverter off and also a few more cca for them -35*F mornings

My '06 1500 has the one battery & it's located in the front driver's side. I have seen the second location for a battery to go on the passenger's side. I was curious if that is what it was until I looked under the hood of a 2500HD of the same year & confirmed that to be an additional battery tray location. I just don't have the need for an extra battery so I leave it open.

Do you happen to know where that battery is as I have heard that before but was unable to locate. I'm currently away from my truck so I don't have access to the manuals for my truck.
