Bought Wheels..now Need Rubber Help Sizing, Tire

Broke down and bought the XD monsters 20x9.

 

I am looking at tires now. Here are the options..

 

Toyo Mud terrains (I believe this was the name, they are pretty much the same as Nitto Trail Grapplers)

Nitto Trails

Cooper LTZ's

 

So I was told to look at 33" tires. 33x12.5x20 but many don't go by this measure. So there are several other sizes. 305/55 20, 295/55 20, 305/50 20 and so on.

 

I am only leveling the truck with the readylift 2.25 leveling kit. The truck will no longer be a daily driver since my new job comes with a car. I want it to perform well in snow (going up to Ohio and bro just got a jeep) and if I want to hit a very MILD trail, I'll be alright. I do need the tires to be good at 70+ mph...heard about wheel wobble.

 

I was told the the nitto Trail grapplers are extremely quit for their aggressiveness. I know there are several people with Coopers but I read many reviews and most went with coopers because they were priced right. I'm looking at like 307 for coopers and 320 for trails.

 

Could you please help me with the correct sizing? What do I need to be aware of? What would everyone recommend? Anyone hear bad things abou the trails ect? Any other tire recommendations?

whats the backspace of the wheels?

 

I'll tell you right now, regardless of what the backspace is DONT even consider a 305/55 with only that 2.25" leveling kit... especially if you're going trail riding (unless you dont mind ripping a fender off)

offset is +18mm.

 

I was told by the local offroading shop to look for 33x12.50x20 and would probably need a little inner fender liner trimming (which I'm fine with)...but not much of the world goes by 33x12.50x20. Another forum member did a 305/50 20 and the other recommended size by them was the 295/55 20 but wanted more info...hence why I'm here. And trails will be about my last priority but want to still be able to go offroad if I want to have a little fun. Thanks

305/55/20s are going to need a lot of metal trimming with those wheels just to drive on the street.

 

either of those other two tire sizes will work alright, might need some trimming especially if you're going to play on a trail or two (mild trails).

 

The takeaway here is that 305/55/20s or 33x12.5s wont work. 305 is 305mm wide which is really a 33x12. For a 2.25" leveling kit and those wheels you want to stick with a 33x11 or smaller tire.

 

Obviously, actual tire size matters. Just because a tires sidewall says 295/55/20 doesn't mean it actually measures 32.75x11.5... it could measure bigger, but most likely smaller.

The 295s will be a bit taller so they'll fill the wheel wells better, and they'll be thinner so they'll do better in snow and for any hydroplaning.

 

The 305s will give you that wider, more aggressive look and will keep the speedometer accurate since they're about the same height as stock tires.

 

Depending on your tires, factor price into the equation as well.

 

I do know the 295/55/20 trail grapplers look pretty sweet. I ran the 305/50/20 Zeon LTZ's on my truck and was very happy with them.... i had a 3" body lift too so don't worry about them looking small, i think it looked great.

 

 

I guess you could say its a win-win with whatever you choose.

I'm leaning toward the 295's. Compared to the 305's (10mm less), will it look to thin? I'm trying to picture 10mm, not thinking many could tell the difference. Have to go get a ruler.

No problem.

 

Just remember... its 10mm on paper, it may be a bigger difference when you them.

 

I've never seen a 305 and thought "wow that tire looks thins". Some 295s do look thin though....

Interesting find on the Cooper and Nitto websites

 

LTZ's: 305/50 20

Diameter: 32.18

Width: 12.14

Load: 3086

 

Trails: 295/55 20

Dia: 32.91

Width: 12.52

Load 3415

 

Doesn't this mean the width of the Trails (even at 295) is wider than the LTZ's at 305? Do websites "lie" about their tires sometimes?

Looks like the 295mm wide TG actually measures 315mm wide.

I want to but local shop says they don't do body lifts...and I don't trust myself nor have the tools to do one. Could I get away with that size for alittle while? Will it just hit the inner fender bad or will it just not work?

 

 

...funny that this was THE tire and size they recommended (Trail 295/55)
