looking to get new tires. i currently have firestone transforce A/T. these tires a great for dry traction but as soon as it starts to rain they begin to slip. thinking about getting goodyear slientarmor. does anybody have these tires? how to they do with towing? thanks

i had two sets on two different vehicles. there a good tire overall but wasnt real happy with the looks, there not like the the older model wrangler at/s.. they were much better in my opinion. if you dont want real aggresive like the mt/r.. i would look at the nitto terra grappler or other brands that are off road but not maximum traction

I have a set on my 2 wd truck and think that they are a good tire, only had a problem with one when I first bought them, when I first put them on the truck would take off at times it might go to the right or the left I just never knew what was going to happen. Worst problem was they were put on and I left on a 500 mile trip, when I got back I took it to the tire store and talked to the operator and told him what was happening. He when out jumped in it and took it around the block he pulled it on a rack and came in and told me it would be a little bit he needed to put new tires on the front. They replaced them and its been good ever since, about 10,000 miles. :thumbs:

Best tires i've ever owned. I went cheap this time and regret it. Next set will be GYSA. They were great in all conditions. I can not comment on their performance towing, rock crawling, or mudding but all practical driving, Ice and deep snow, they are great.

I really like them. I had them on my Dodge Durango, Silvy 1500 and now my Silvy 2500. Them and the Nitto Terragrapplers are my choices. Nitto's look better. But I can get the Silent Armour's at a better price.

Same here. I'm running Silent Armors right now. They live up to the name, I think. On dry pavement at highway speeds...these things are (relative to other A/T tires) whisper quiet! Rain traction is very good and they do OK in the snow. The self-cleaning properties of the treads in snow & mud are pretty good, but not 'excellent'. But I think it's a great tire and would certainly buy another set.

i have silent armors and all 3 of my vehicles. great performing on road, suprisingly not too bad off road, decent in snow to.

 

the silent armors on my truck seem to be wearing down pretty fast after 8000 miles...i do drive it harder then the other trucks

A good friend of mine, has a set on his '04 CC 2500HD and he isn't all too impressed with them. I've driven

the truck and couldn't really find nothing terrible about them but they are not real hot in snow, that much I

do know. His problem is that with regular rotations, and correct tire pressures, they are nearly worn out at

30,000ish miles. He does pull a large travel trailer 5-6 times in the summer but that's it. He does like them when

towing but he also went with the 265/75R16 Load Range E's, also.

 

I still stand by Michelins. Love mine and anytime we have a problem child in the shop (tire issue), we put

Michelins on them to fix the concern. :lol:

Love mine. LTX AT/2's.

 

I put LTX MS/2's on the woman's Jeep GC too. She likes to take corners like Micheal FREAKIN Shumacher so I couldn't see putting a full on AT tire on it because no mater what I do, the edges would be chopped.

:sigh:

 

Finally got to try out the MS/2's on her Jeep yesterday, in all the snow/ice, and was pleasantly suprised. Not quite

as qrippy in the snow as my AT/2's but that's it and pretty self explanatory looking at the tread designs. The MS/2's ARE better on the ice though. Also pretty self explanatory.

I have a set on my 2500HD and my Jeep GC. I have had good luck with them. They seem a little hard to balance, but if you do regular rotations and balance when needed they are a quiet smooth running AT tire. Best I've run so far. Mileage won't be as good as the Michilens, but I think performance will be as good or better (bear in mind I have no experience with them, just what I've read). I noticed my mileage dropped some when I went to these compared to my stock Duravis, but I did go up a tire size too. They hug the road good and are excellent in snow and mud for an AT tire. Pretty good in sand as well.

 

The main reason I bought them is because of the Kevlar. I had run several sets of Firestone Destination ATs and Daytons Timberlines and had many, many tire repairs. I run alot of rural roads. I've had very few tire repairs with the GY's. So in my opinion that outweighs any loss in mileage. No way to prove the Kevlar helps with flats other than the fact I get far less than I used too. So I'll continue to purchase them if they continue to hold up like they have.

    • No I didn’t watch a video of a person who analyzes oil for a living explain general oil usage. For clarity I did ask my brothers one who runs our equipment business. The other who runs our old ROW business about oil usage. Nothing has changed since I retired. Their personal vehicles or work vehicles use no oil. Not enough to see on the oil checking device. Then I pondered. I like to ponder. In this extended oil changing world with oil change countdowns or lights. If engines used say a qt every 2500 miles or up to even 4000 miles. With oil changes reaching as high as 15000 miles. Normal for most people is eight to ten. Vehicles should potentially be seizing up all over the place. Especially in hilly terrain. Just how many people actually check their oil? Maybe 10 percent. Those are the people that probably change their oil early. I like to research used car listings. I have five favorite dealers I check. They all list carfax with their listing. It’s rare to see vehicles with anything but extended oil changes. Transmission service, forget about it. I’ve seen Honda and Toyota certified vehicles up to 100K miles and ten years old. With nothing but normal maintenance. Isn’t nice we all have different experiences and believe our way is the best. You certainly get backup for whatever you believe. Life would be boring otherwise.
    • Interesting rumor. Dealers near me have been tight-lipped so far, but if this reveal actually happens next week, I'm really hoping they finally give the HD a proper interior overhaul. The competition has been eating their lunch in the cabin department for a while now.
    • There are a few good takeaways in that video that pertain to this thread, certainly the possibility of the oil control rings having buildup, the fuel injectors and how clean or not that they are ending up affecting the pistons rings carbon buildup, and the fact that its normal up to a point for a given engine to use some oil, and that the oil quality that is being utilized is part of that ring clogging up issue as well.   I was talking with a neighbor yesterday who has a baby LZ0 duramax and he had bought it slightly used but it does consume some oil and he has switched over to 5W-30 Euro spec oil and in this case that never made a difference in consumption over the factory 0W-20 recommendation. He finds it uses a quart in about 3500 miles and as he goes a ways over that distance he adds oil to full and goes another 1000 miles or so and then changes oil and is typically at 40% or so left on the oil monitor at that point with his use case of quite a lot of highway miles and more limited in short run use. I don't know what other LZ0 engines are doing for oil consumption but that is what his is doing.

    • Ok well I guess Lake disagrees with me on a few points. I call oil consumption pretty basic. Rudimentary. He calls it "really complicated." I think 1qt consumed in 3k miles is a lot. He says that's normal. In 22 minutes, he'll use his natural talent to explain oil consumption to anyone watching this video. He covers everything from obvious engine damage to how normally functioning healthy engines consume oil by design. Lake explicitly states how you drive will impact oil consumption.   Shut up and watch:
