Looking To Buy 11 Hd

I was wondering if anyone owns a 2011 Silverado 2500 HD Ext. Cab LT short bed 4x4 with the alum. 18'' wheels, roof lights, and tow mirrors that can post pics of it. I've been to the local dealer and all they have is the plain jane white work truck long bed with none of the options i want. I'm probably better off ordering this truck as the dealer found one almost 500mi away for 41k. It had a few things i didnt really need like leather, plus i dont want that many miles on my brand new truck when they drive it back. i havent seen a truck like this around here just CC's. I'm currently in a 07 Tundra 5.7 4x4 TRD OFFROAD 4.30 gear. I like the truck but Toyotas quality has definetely took a nose dive in recent years. Plus they are very expensive to work on. I had a 99 Silverado Z71 that was a wonderful truck and was just wanting to get back in a Chevy. Thanks

You will love the new truck when you get it! I don't have one but from everything i have read they are beasts! I don't have any pictures for you but i would suggest doing a google search or go to the chevy website and look at their pics. Or go on other dealers sites and see what they have available for pics.

Excellent suggestion ... YES, go to the dealer's web site. Often the dealer will have actual photos of the individual truck online.

Enjoy your new truck. She's going to be excellent.

Hey, Leather is super. And leather WITH heated seats is even better. I love it when I remote start my rig and (at 40º or under) the seat heater is already on and the heater has the rig heated up. Cushy and comfort is OK, even in a truck.

Go buy it and enjoy your new truck, my friend.

Thanks guy, i already did the Chevy website thing, but actual pics in the real world would be awesome. Also interested in what guys are saying about the 6.0 and the trans combo. I read where the new gas motor slowed down as far as 0-60 and 1/4 mi times cause of the extra weight. That kinda sucks. I read that the 2013 might have a new 7.0 direct injection. That would be awesome for sure. As far as the leather goes, my 99 LT(loaded) Z71 had leather and heated seats and i really liked it, but i have Hatchie Bottom cloth seat cover on my truck now and really like them. I do alot of hunting and leather just isnt practical for me anymore. My new truck will have neoprene custom covers and console.

If you don't need a new truck now then you should wait till after the Detroit Auto show, i believe the new body style for the HDs will be there. The 6.0L with the six speed does just fine with the few hundered extra pounds of truck it carries around. If you are to worried about it you can either get the 6.0 truck tuned or wait for the new engine. Nothing official about a new engine has been discussed, but with Ram and Ford coming out with new gas engines you know GM will counter them.

I ordered a 2011 Sierra 2500HD and picked it up in October. Pretty much just like a Silverado except for the front hood and grill, but it will give you an idea. It has the 6.0 gas'r, crew cab, short box, midnight blue with ebony interior, SLE preferred package, split front bench seat, cloth interior (leather is nice but it isn't for me), heavy duty trailering package, 6" chrome assist steps, heated camper tow mirrors, 18" forged aluminum wheels, 4WD, 4.10 rear axle, 160 amp alternator, 5th wheel wiring provisions, skid plate package. I traded in a 2008 Tundra with 5.7 V-8. We have a 32' camper and six of us in the family and needed the payload a HD provides that the Tundra didn't have. Tundra was a good truck and a strong motor, but the payload just isn't there. Pulling the camper weight and all of us loaded down, I will feel safer in the HD. So far I really like the Sierra and am looking forward to next spring and going camping.

I was going back and forth with the Chevy dealer and the GMC dealer and it just came down to price...GMC gave me a better deal. I read on one thread a while back that waiting around for the next motor or next improvement...you just can't keep up with the next best thing. From all I have read the 6.0 motor has been and still is a great motor. The new frame improvements etc. GM made added 700 lbs to the truck, but the 6.0 still handles it. It doesn't have the quick take off from a dead stop like the Tundra had, but again you don't buy a HD to go racing. I bought it for the towing, stability and the new frame and underneath improvements, I think I have a pretty good truck that I hope will last a long time. If I could afford a diesel, I would have bought the new diesel, but another $8k just wasnn't going to fly with the wife...Anyway...I say go for it Chevy or GMC...attached is my 2011 Sierra HD

Yeah i really dont need a new truck right now but.... :) . Do you know when the Detroit Auto Show is going to happen? That would be cool to get a peek at the new body style coming. The internet pics of the new body style coming does not look too good to me,but who knows what it will really look like.

Good post. I kinda was hoping someone who had a Tundra would chime in on this. The Tundra engine will spoil you, cause i went and test drove a 10 GMC 6.2 and was not impressed at all. I know it wont be as quick as the HD,but i want more payload like yourself and a more stable riding truck. The ride of the TRD Tundra is the pits as you can look in the rearview mirror and see the bed dancing and bouncing around like its not even attached to the cab. That is one of the major reasons i want out of this truck. What kinda mileage are you getting with the GMC and what are some of the things you miss about your Tundra since getting the GMC (if any)? I would love to have a diesel too but cant afford it. I was hunting a couple of weeks ago and my cousin pulled up in a 10 Chevy HD loaded with a lift. WOW, that thing looked GOOOOD!!!!

BTW your new truck looks awesome!

You do know that the warranty mileage starts at whats on the clock plus 36K. My truck was 250 miles away and the warranty ends at 36,250. Nothing wrong with a few miles on there.

I am getting 12 mpg in town...I just turned over 1,000 miles on the speedometer. I really haven't had it on the highway yet. The Tundra motor had more horsepower (381), but didn't have the suspension and stability I was looking for pulling a heavy camper, plus if we upgrade to a 5th wheel in the future, I know the GMC Sierra can handle it. The Tundra got 12-13 mpg in town. What do I miss about the Tundra...I really miss the pop out cup holders in the dash- Crazy as that sounds!! One other item the Tundra had that I hope the engineers at GM fix on the split front bench seat is providing a shoulder seat belt on the middle front seat. The Tundra had this and the Sierra just has the lap belt for the middle person. The Sierra is alot more truck and has many more bells and whistles that I really like and that the Tundra didn't have. I gave up alittle horsepower, but gained a whole lot more with the HD, suspension, frame improvements and the capabilities of an HD.

I didn't mention in my earlier post that the GMC dealer gave me $24k for the Tundra trade. On the Sierra, I also line-x'd the bed and the rear wheel wells.

Do you know when the Detroit Auto Show is going to happen?
The Detroit Auto show, known as the North American International Auto Show (Google "NAIAS") takes place from January 10-23, 2011.

Do not expect to see next gen (K2XX) trucks there. The current GMT900 models have at least one more model year. Last year at the NAIAS the trucks were an afterthought, at the edge of the display area. Small urban vehicles got the most attention. Hoping for better things this year.

Anyone have any good pics of what the new 2500HD's will look like? Chevy or GMC. Cause right now, imo, GMC's look 100x better than Chevy's do.

I didnt know the Tundra had pop out cupholder in the dash, must be a bench seat thing. $24k sounds like you got a great deal.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
