Brake Controller Location?!?!?

Alright guys. First post here. Recently bought an 07 gmc sierra. It really has a nice seamless interior with nav climate controll traction controll and park assist and power pedal buttons. I really dont like the idea of a brake controller just hanging down below the kick panel to creat an ugly look as well as a shin knocker. Has anyone on here mounted one in the lower kick panel of their truck? What brake controller is the best? Anyone have pictures of how they have mounted theirs? The only other place I could think of to mount it was in the centercounsel up on the shelf in there, but that really limits what I can put in there. It also makes it very difficult to spike the brakes if needed.

 

I have done much reading about the fact you cant install the integrated controller without the JL1 build code which I dont have unfortunately. Is GM ever going to come out with a way to install this? Thanks guys

I put the Tekonsha P3 in mine. Mounted it under the dash, but more to the middle of the dash. The P3 is removable, so I just unplug it and leave it in the area under the jump seat. When removed you cannot even see the mounting bracket.

On my GMT-800 there was a metal frame on the bottom of the dash down by the pedals. There were two holes perfectly lined up for my brake controller to mount on. No drilling holes in the dash for me!!! Also I have never hit it with my shin.

Mine was exactly the same...it's almost like it was meant to go there. I can glance down throught the steering wheel and view it perfectly. I also never banged it when climbing in or out of the truck. Mine has an emergency button on it that I can manually depress by hand if for some reason I needed more power to the trailer brakes which I never have had to use yet but I have played with it and it is easily reached mounted in this location.

From the reading I have done GM did away with the pig tail and went to blunt cut wires tucked up under the dash. you find these wires splice to the brake controller pig tail and then go to the fuse block under the hood on drivers side and connect the power wire found taped to the harness by the fender and also the one by the master cylinder(if you need to charge a battery on your trailer.... and there you go.... seems pretty straight forward.... I just really want to come up with a place to mount the thing

If you got the factory hitch, you got the wires as well. The wires are tied up behind the factory plug for the computer. They are long enough to mount the contoller just about anywhere it will fit. Mine is right where the above pic shows. The P3 is removeable so you don't know it is even there when not in place.

I even thought about getting another ashtray door and enlarging the space a tad and modifying the door to keep it in there all the time. Just close the door to hide it from kids, car wash guys, etc.

 

Thought a bit more and realized the first place they look for change and extra keys, etc. is the ashtray.
