nice... we had a guy that was rebuilding his LS1 for his Trans Am. In the mean time he decided to play with the Ford guys a little because they were whining how they only had 4.6L vs. the 5.7L LS1.... so he borrowed a 4.8L, jabbed his cam and heads on it and took it out playing. I have video, he broke some hearts that night :shakehead:

the 6.0L is a great motor though, it's slightly larger displacement makes up for the few extra pounds and as a bonus you get the durability of the iron block which of course is great for boosted applications.

yeah great for torq. I will be build a 408ci stroker. I was going to go 370ci or 390ci but with it being cheaper to go 408ci might as well

Awesome score! I got a fully running 55k mile LQ9 out of an '05 Escalade for $700 that I'm building right now, thought that was a pretty good find...

I thought the hummers just got lq4's though..? Doesn't matter since you're only using the block, but now you also have me confused how you're building a 408 cheaper than a 370... you get the stroker crank for free or something???

Oh and NickV, the iron 6.0 weighs the same as 4.8 or iron 5.3. Block is 80# more than alu. LS2... and yeah the slightly larger bore really helps it out over the other engines.

I'm planning on 370 and just wicking up the maggie along with a bigass blower cam.

But that's not until my current setup horks a valve or something.

I went through the same thing... basically, by the time you have a shop check, polish and balance the crank, you may as well buy a stroker kit from Compstar. Buying a compstar kit already balanced and with all the parts only costs a maybe $200 more than having the stock crank prepped and buying seperate rods and pistons etc... THe package deals make it hard to reuse stock stuff, and you get better parts and more stroke.

ill called everyone a 408ci motor is cheaper! The rotating assembly is cheaper due to have a ton more on shelf's. 3.70ci are not that common so they cost more unless u you stock crank.. BTW if ya going SC you will want the extra cubes. If your going turbo you dont really need them.
