Trans Temp Gauge 00 Sierra?

On my 2000 2500 with the 4l80e I'd like to add a transmission temp gauge. Anyone ever done this? If so, where did you install the sensor on the transmission? Weld in a bung on the transmission pan? Or is there a spot that I can just thread in a sensor? Pics would be appreciated as well! Thanks!

I put an escalade cluster in mine. Works the same just looks a heck of a lot better.

Im not sure if its the same on the 4L80, but on the 4L60 there is a blind plug on the driver side. I think its some kind of test port for something. The threads on that match up perfectly with an Autometer sending unit. I put one in my 01 S10 and am thinking of putting one in my 05 Silverado. I thought about replacing the cluster with a HD serries, but it would cost close to $350 to get the parts and have the cluster reprogrammed. Guage pod and an Autometer Z series guage os only about $75 shipped to my door. Take a look at the driver side of your trans and see if you have the same plug.

Thats strange that the wiring would be there but not in the cluster. I'll look into the 2500hd cluster when mine goes out. And maybe do some wiring diagram studying if I just run a gauge pod. Thanks!

The wiring is there because the pcm monitors tranny temps.. It will derate if the temp gets hot enough to protect it..

Strange that you have a 2500 without a temp gauge.. every 2500(HD or not) i've been in had the tranny temp gauge on the left..

Yeah I thought it was strange as well. I questioned the mileage until I did a car fax, and it was correct for the vin number. I'm thinking the PO had the cluster replaced with a 1500 one perhaps?

Check out the ScanGauge II. It is the way to go. Great product!! I have one on my 2500 even though I have factory gauge. With the ScanGauge I can check incoming air temp, MPG, GPH, operating cost, Knock Reduction, Closed/Open Loop, exact water, oil & trans temp and more. www.scangauge.com

Quickly looked over ScangaugeII website, and where it list what it monitors, it doesn't say that you can watch your tranny temp. ??

You can.

I also doesnt offer any kind of mounting options.

Most likely 3M double sided tape. :)
