Chrome Tow Hooks

I have been thinking that my truck would look really nice with chrome tow hooks.

I looked at some prior posts, and searched the internet on prices for new chrome tow hooks and I came up with the idea that I should just take my tow hooks off and take them down to the chrome shop and have them chromed. I am sure they would charge less than the price of new ones.

Anyone have that done yet, or did you just buy new ones?

Are they easy to get off? I haven't looked under the truck yet, but by pictures of the hooks on the internet, it looks like they are just held in by 1 bolt.

Check ebay and the for sale thread here you can probably get a set cheaper. Then you can sell your current ones and recoup some cost (I bought a set of plain black ones for my 2wd Tahoe a few yrs ago)

make sure you look at the packaging. there are chrome hooks that are show only and cant be used as a tow hook. i would just chrome the stock ones this way you know you can still use them if you get stuck. note though that i have never seen a chromed over tow hook though- so i dont know how it will look- im coming from a function standpoint.

Mine are fully functional (stock gm chrome ones) Why wouldnt a tow hook be functional, it is kinda an oxy-moron. That would make no sense. Never seen one with a warning, caution these are for looks only :wtf:

I added the GM chrome tow hooks to both my 2007 and 2010 Avalanches (as they were 2WD and they don't come with them). I know the front fascia is different between the Avalanches and the Silverados/Sierras so my advice might not be applicable, but removing the bumper cover (if you can) is of a great advantage when installing the two bolts that secure the hooks to the front frame. I didn't do this on my 2007 and it took me quite a while to get the bolts torqued. Removing the bumper cover on the NBS Avalanches is easy and allows great access to the area to torque down the bolts for the hooks. I took this approach on my 2010 and it saved me a ton of time.
