20" Chrome Wheels Cracking

Recommended Posts

2 of my 20" chrome wheels on my 2010 Silverado have cracks in the chrome near the center of the wheel. Anyone else with this problem? This must be covered in the warranty.

Thanks, Spiral Gray

We've replaced a couple sets here under warranty, they were cracking in the same place...in the center near the lug nuts.

For the record....It is just the plastic chrome hub cap that is cracking, not the aluminum wheel itself, there is no safety issue.

Also,GM ask for the old wheels to be returned for evaluation,so they know there is a issue.

Are these "chrome clad" wheels or actual chromed alloy wheels?

They are chrome cladded, thats why I said its the plastic hub cap thats cracking and not the wheel itself.

Is the chrome clad glued to the aluminum wheel or is the chrome clad easy to remove? Also, what does the aluminum wheel look like under the chrome?

Thanks, Spiral Gray

Yes,The chrome clad cover is glued to the wheel,I don't know how hard it is to remove but I'm sure you could if you want.

I have no idea what the wheel looks like underneath.

This is what the clad wheels look like with the chrome removed.

I m sure they could be polished up to a nice shine.

I searched and found out that I prefer the 2007-2008 20" wheels...I hate the idea of plastic crhome clad on a wheel...

Wow those wheels look great with the matte gray finish. They remind me of the old Impala SS wheels.
