Anybody else get a happy poop eater grin when you see those old beat down GM trucks still working hard? i see alot of trucks come and go from work and the number of GM/Fords that come in is crazy, mostly early 90s beat to hell, dented, start up with a burp of oil, i've overloaded so many of these old half tons and they just don't seem to be bothered at all..idk but it makes me proud to drive an american pick up..

Yup I still see a lot of 80s (mid and late) Chevy Trucks on the road. Still rolling strong. More old Chevy's on the road then any other brand.

like its wild what i see people doing to their old trucks with 200k+ miles on them with more rust then paint....i've overloaded GMT-400s to the point that the mud flaps were on the ground and they just drive on...although i'd never do that to my 800 it makes me happy knowing that my truck can take abuse and endure

Oh hell...there are 60's trucks still hauling crap around here. Hundreds of 80's trucks with propane 305's still trucking on.

I wouldn't expect the 400's, 800's, or 900's to be doing any work when they're 40 or 50 years old...I wouldn't expect them to be working well after 25 years to be totally honest. Nothing about the truck or drive train....just electronics and wiring will degrade after time and have you looked at the wiring harness...inside and out? That's not gonna be an easy replacement like the 12 circuit one on an old square body.

Got a buddy who has an ol' 1978 Ford 350 with a Flatbed....he usesit to haul all sorts of stuff...I get a kick out of it....love that truck

I love it too. My old 90' 2500 is still running around. I see it here and there and am just amazed.

That truck did way more than it ever shouild and just kept on smileing. Here in the rust belt it's rare to see anything older than mid to late 80's still doing their job.

Well come back here in 25 years and my GMT-800 will still be doing just fine. Then again, this site will probably not be here by then because the Internet will be obsolete by then so :(

Yea I love it when I see an old truck still keepin on truckin. We've got a bunch of old gm's at work that have been beat to death but keep doin what they are built to do! We've got a 91 gm dually flat deck gas job that only gets driven loaded up to the nuts with deliveries. Got a 98 gmc 1/2 ton 4x4 that has about 600,000km and has been a work truck from day one that just won't die. Still see lots of farmers rattling around in their 70's and 80's chev pickups!

Amen to that, my truck has 195000 miles on it and is still going strong. I know it will be around for a long time unless some jack ass runs into me.

i think the key factor is maintance....second being quality build and engineering

Not too far from me this guy has a early 80s Chevy dually that looks like a work truck. I would love to have something like that.

i think the number one key factor is how you treat the vehicle, like how you drive, where you drive... etc.

if you live in the boondocks like me, and the roads are 50% percent usually rough dirt roads, 50% barley paved with 10000000 potholes and bumps and other weird things, your truck will wear out faster. all of my trucks have gone through tie rods at about 100,000 becasue its just so rough around here. my 2001 went through both rods at about 80k. the dust from the dirt roads in the summer gets inside and all over EVERYTHING. in the winter, switching in an out of 4wd and sometimes 4low many times wears shit out.

about the maintnece thing.... only thing ever changed maintnece wise on my 2003 suburban with almost 160,000 now, air filter a few times, and oil. no plugs, no wires, no fluid changes in the diffs, tcase, anything nothing else and it has not failed. the tranny failed BECAUSE i flushed the fluid..... lesson learned.
