Do I Need New Brakes?

Lately they have been squeaky. Whenever its humid out or it rains, then first minute or so I am driving it the brake is super sensitive and its like I have to warm them up. My truck as been sitting a couple days in the rain and humidity and just now I went from the street to the driveway. I was literally going 5 mph, barely tapped the break and it grabbed on like I had just put all my force onto it.

There is no grinding or anything. I have no idea how old the current brakes are as I bought the truck used. I am about to hit 60k miles though.

It sounds pretty normal. Mine get a slight coating of rust on the rotors from sitting for even a few days in the rain and humdity. The grab you are feeling is probably just the rust wearing off.

Having said that, may be a good time to check them. I got about 70,000 miles out of mine, I bought the truck with 15,000 miles on it, and am pretty sure they were not replaced when I bought it.

If you bought the truck new and have never had the breaks changed then do your self a favor and get them checked. The factory breaks seem to be either hit or miss, for me it's a miss but for others their fine.

My 2010 when new...would squeak every now and then after sitting when backing out My driveway. Asked the dealer about it and they claimed it was rust. OK...that's fine, but what kind of product rusts immediately after sitting a day or two ? None of My other trucks did...Fords and dodges...even My 97 silverado. I guess it's another "use or lose" due to cost cuts...cheap metal.

My 2011 does it once in a while when it's humid or has rained and sat for a while. Sounds normal to me.

All brake rotors rust if they are sitting. If you notice, when you purchase new rotors they have a coating of lube on them that should be cleaned off prior to install. The lube is there so the rotors do not rust in the box. You probably just did not notice as much on your other trucks but they do get rusty from sitting.
