Ezdown Tailgate Assist

I like mine, it really comes in handy when the nephews want to open the tailgate by themselves. Don't have to worry about it slamming down.....Really good add on IMO, they should come from the factory this way.

I ordered one too after reading this. However, had a @#$%$ of time with the upper ball hinge. It was too large for the shock so I had to grind it down. Works great!!!!

Cheers Primo.

Put it on and the weight of the tailgate just blows past the shock and slams down.

Has the same part number on it. The connections on either end are ball connections though on mine

Ill be calling monday

Did anyone have any issues with the cable kind of bunching up against the shock when trying to close the tailgate? Mine kind of crimped it and folded funny (enough so I didnt care for it) - - did I install something wrong/too tight?

I made a similar observation after installing mine last week. Let's see where this goes over time.

did you put the shock on upside down? its a one way shock, so it only slows down the down motion, and doesn't make it harder to shut. the shock reservoir should be at the top, connected to the side of the bed

Actually, it slows down on extension. Does not matter how it is oriented. The first one I got did not work either. Had to take it back and exchange it. Replacement shock works great.

Well found out by accident there was an O Riley parts about 15 mins. away from the house.

Went and got one yesterday.

What tools do you have to use to install?

Do you have to have 2 persons to install as my wife and I work opposite schedules?

And it is hard to have both of us home at the same time not many neighbors up at 3 am to help.

Hell it is even hard to get approval to spend money on the truck other than fuel. She saw the video that was posted above she said I should get one of those. :driving:

I have the truck listed below.

BTW thanks to who ever posted the part number as that was the only way I was able to find out if my local store had the part; as when you search the web site nothing comes up. :dunno:

When I got to the store the shelf tag was labeled as fitting a ford van but when I looked at the package it states it is for my truck.

Naw, it is a one person job.

I also had a hard time trying to find it on the O'Reilly website when I was sending a link to someone for a gift idea for someone else. Figures.

I think it lists the tools needed in the instructions. I remember using a socket, screw driver, and torx bit. I was also installing a gate keeper at the same time though so that might have been extra tool needs.
