Ezdown Tailgate Assist

I had one of these EZDown Tailgate Assists on my last truck and liked it a lot. I have the factory EZ Lift Tailgate on the truck but it seems not to do anything for letting it down easy. I was at O'reilly's Auto Parts and noticed they had them on sale for $19.99!! I picked up a SG330901EZ for the 2007-2010. Install went easy. Only mod I had to do was to grind a flat on the big washer to clear the radius. Tailgate goes down nice and slow unassisted. Well worth the $20. Sale on until 5/24 I believe.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been meaning to install one of these on my truck and for only $20, there's no more excuses. Is there a lot of resistance when you close the tailgate? I have the factory EZ lift tailgate and I don't want to screw that up.

Nope, closes as before. I think the cylinder is a one way.

I got one of these free from 4wheelparts.com when i ordered a deezee bed mat back in December. Thing is pretty cool, it stops your tailgate from slamming down and being damaged.

i thought that the easy lift was just the molding on the rear of the tailgate, i have easy lift and it doesnt seem any different than any other truck except for the plastic trim peice, is there supposed to be a spring or something that assists in lifting.

my dealer explained it when i bought my 2011, something to do with the resistance when you put the tail gate up. Theres supposed to be less resistance when you push up

I believe that there are some torsion bars in the tailgate that aid in lifting it closed. I can easily close mine one-handed unlike my Ford Ranger that feels like it takes 2-3 times as much effort to close.

What the heck??? $20??? So much for getting a deal on the internet. I think I bought mine a couple months ago for twice that! Guess I'm gonna need to start using gas to go to O'Reily's first for stuff now...

EZ Down is awesome, though. I've had one on my last two trucks.

Cool. Maybe I am missing something here but why wouldn't this work on a 2011? I do not see any difference in the picture above (TY for that!) and the same side on my tailgate.

I just wathced your video, and my tailgate doesn't go down anywhere near as slow as yours. Mine starts out quick and then about 2 inches from it being fully extended slows down real quick and kind of comes down gently.

Yeah the factory EZ-Lift tailgate feature is only good for the lift part, hence the name EZ-Lift. My tailgate is easier to lift than my old little tacoma's was. EZ-Down is nice too but not what the factory feature provides. It definitely is a cool add-on. I'll bet that they offer it as a feature some day too.
