Ezdown Tailgate Assist

I have had the EZDown on my truck for a couple of years now. It's great! I always unlatch the tailgate and let go. Tailgate never slams down. I always forget that not everyone has this so when I open a tailgate on a different truck, I absentmindedly let go and the tailgate slams down. OOPS!!! LOL!

Thanks for the heads up on this. $20. Nice little upgrade. Gonna have to get out and get one for my truck today or tomorrow.

Drove by an O'Reilly's I did not know was there so I stopped and picked this little critter out. The package said it would fit 2007 and up, not just 2007-2010 like it says on the website for this product. Thanks for the pictures and info from DaveH71, AntelopeZ71, and others. I can add that this fits fine on my 2011 as well. I did not have to cut my washer down; my side bolt is apparently further away from the weld seam so the washer sits flat. Another 0.5mm further in and I would have had to trim the washer, or use another one. I probably should have used another one anyway as the washer in my kit is plain zinc coated steel.

The only tools I used were 10 & 13mm wrenches and 4 & 5mm Allen wrenches.

The kit is even setup with the cylinder in the correct orientation -- the seals in those cylinders should always be mounted in the predominately down position.

I have one on my 06 .. Its been on there for at least 4 years or so.. I love it , but it is rusting terrible and the rod that comes out of cylinder is bending... im expecting it to let go one day.

This could all be from the buffalo ny weather / salt tho.. Wish i had a oreillys so i could get it for $20.. I know i paid close to $40 when they first came out and i got it for my truck.

thanks! I also picked 1 up today. but I broke a bolt installing it. The collared bolt broke. going to call the company for another 1. not sure if I was over tightening, or if it was already defective.

06Z71Silvy, you can get 1 shipped to you and still be less than 40 dollars. I checked online and it was 8 dollars and change to my house.

I have mine couple weeks ago on sale for $19.99. Nice feature specially for the wife and kids. Easy to install. I don't have to grind the washer.

I had one of these EZDown Tailgate Assists on my last truck and liked it a lot. I have the factory EZ Lift Tailgate on the truck but it seems not to do anything for letting it down easy. I was at O'reilly's Auto Parts and noticed they had them on sale for $19.99!! I picked up a SG330901EZ for the 2007-2010. Install went easy. Only mod I had to do was to grind a flat on the big washer to clear the radius. Tailgate goes down nice and slow unassisted. Well worth the $20. Sale on until 5/24 I believe.

Good to know. Is it the washer and new post that are rusting, the cylinder, or some combination?

Just ran down to O'reilly's and got mine. May put it on the truck today depending on honey do's for the day.

Just bought and installed the same p/n as above, SG330901EZ and didn't have to modify the washer. Mine drops down slow like in the video posted above.

The washer would have contacted the bend, so I just got a slightly smaller washer that fit. The only concern I have is that the new, longer tailgate support (where the EZdown attaches at the top), deflects somewhat when I sit on the tailgate in the down position. Also, the hex flat head screw that goes into the collared bolt doesn't feel really secure, and loosens up after wiggling the new lower mounting point. I'm afraid to tighten up that collared bolt any more, but don't know how to deal with the loosening of the entire lower apparatus...
