A few questions about front end

Ok, I have a 2001 GMC 2500 HD Ext Cab...I bought new tires and wheels for it....I got Weld Stone Cruser Wheels (16x8) and I got BFG AT TA KO's. 285-75-16.....Here is my problem.....I cranked the torsion bars some and the tires where still hitting.....I took a heat gun and heated up the inner wheel wells and pushed the plastic back......That worked....Seems the passenger side hit more than the drivers side.....I also had to trim the front air dam....Heated up a razor blade and cut it like that....I just installed Husky Mud Guards for my truck....Had to trim them also.....Seems again that the passenger side hit worse than the drivers side....Actually had to take a hammer and beat the wheel well back a little bit....Is this normal that one side of the truck hits worse then the other????My other question is I know that I need to get a front end allignment after cranking the torsion bars and I have not done that yet....Could this be what is causing the problem also???? I keep reading on here that people are putting these tires on there truck and having no problem....What else could be wrong????Thanks, Joe

And when I said I beat the wheel well, it was not that much, A quarter of an inch......

Before I had my lift, I had 285's and I had to trim a little and push back the wheel well a little, I also cranked the torsion bars slightly and I still rubbed a little.  I just never turned the wheels all the way to one side or the other when I was backing up.  Mine also rubbed more on one side than the other, kinda wierd.  Try measuring from the bottom of each mirror to the ground on a level surface and see if your torsion bars are equally cranked and level.  Seems like I am ALWAYS messing with my torsion bars, especially after lifting it! I hate them!

I don't understand it. i cranked the Torsion Bars up about 4 turns and my 285 75 R16 BFG KO's on stock rims don't touch a thing. Granted, i haven't had full compressions yet but the tire isn't anywhere near a wheel well or fender.

Sounds about normal. My 285's on the 16x8's with 4 5/8" backspacing rub on BOTH sides at full lock. It's about a 1/4" interference.

I've learned to live with it. Can't get myself to get out the hammer and start clearancing... :flag:  :( ;)

All things being equal (tires, rims, etc) about the only thing in the front end that could create this type problem is either a slight imperfection in the frame or the caster (alignment) is off on the one side.

I had to squeeze my 285's in as well. I just kept trimming until they didn't rub in all kinds of terrain. Even had to cut a small amount of sheetmetal from behind the tire. But got them to fit and man they sure make the truck look better IMO

Yeah me too no probs here....plus I figured the tires would do there own trimming if they didn't think they had enough room. :(
